Ok say you have the following:
a 2ml bottle containing 1000mcg of IGF-1
a 1/2cc U100 slin pin (the most common type)
The question is 1iu = xx mcg of IFG-1???
?
?
?
?
The answers I have seen/been given is: 1iu = 10mcg
Now every way I have calculated it out I get 1iu = 5mcg (with a U100 pin)
Some one please tell me what I am doing wrong here !!!!
2ml@1000mcg = 500mcg/cc
Now since an iu does not convert directly into any volume measurement the slin pin is marked specifically for one type of insulin in this case U100.
U100 slin is 100iu/cc so 1iu = 0.01cc
This can be verified since a 1/2cc U100 slin pin has a marking of 50iu's at the 1/2cc mark (0.5cc/50iu = 0.01cc per 1iu)
So with a concentration of 500mcg/cc IGF-1:
500mcg/cc x 0.01cc/iu = 5mcg/iu or (1iu = 5mcg)
Now this calculation is only for a U100 slin pin if a U50 pin was used the conversion would then work out to 1iu = 10mcg as I see it.
