IGF-1 + slin pin = math???

deadfred

New member
Ok say you have the following:

a 2ml bottle containing 1000mcg of IGF-1
a 1/2cc U100 slin pin (the most common type)

The question is 1iu = xx mcg of IFG-1???
?
?
?
?
The answers I have seen/been given is: 1iu = 10mcg

Now every way I have calculated it out I get 1iu = 5mcg (with a U100 pin)
Some one please tell me what I am doing wrong here !!!!

2ml@1000mcg = 500mcg/cc

Now since an iu does not convert directly into any volume measurement the slin pin is marked specifically for one type of insulin in this case U100.

U100 slin is 100iu/cc so 1iu = 0.01cc
This can be verified since a 1/2cc U100 slin pin has a marking of 50iu's at the 1/2cc mark (0.5cc/50iu = 0.01cc per 1iu)

So with a concentration of 500mcg/cc IGF-1:
500mcg/cc x 0.01cc/iu = 5mcg/iu or (1iu = 5mcg)

Now this calculation is only for a U100 slin pin if a U50 pin was used the conversion would then work out to 1iu = 10mcg as I see it.

HELP PLEASE!!!

slin pins ARE 1CC 100 units...there's yo prob

Yes, I believe that I stated that U100 slin pins are 100 units per cc, so isn't 1 unit = 0.01cc???

I am really not trying to be retarded about this or anything I just want someone to show me the math in how they know that given the equipment listed that 1iu = 10mcg. I am just trying to learn something here. I am old enough to know that I am most likely wrong but 100 people just telling me that 1iu = 10mcgs doesn't really help me learn, which is why I am being annoying on this point.

Another way of looking at it:

If 1iu = 10mcg and there are 100 units per CC :

Now if you drew 1cc or 100units you would have
100 units x 10mcg per unit = 1000mcg in 1cc

But how can that be when there is 1000mcgs in 2cc of solution? You just drew 1cc and have 1cc of solution left so how could you have drawn all of the 1000mcgs that was in there to start with.

Come on, I know there are a lot of smart people out there. Someone please show me the math so I can let this thing go already!!!

Where did you see that you have 2mL of IGF-1?
My bottle says 1000mcg's of IGF-1 / 1mL BA
I am doing 100mcg's per day and I get 10 days out of a bottle.
Your math is correct I think.

it is indeed 1ml.

IF you had 1000mcg in 2 ml's BA, then you'd indeed have 500mcg/ml, meaning 10iu on a slin pin would give you 50mcg. Most IGF, including the kind I have, is 1000mcg in ONE ml of BA, so 1000mcg/100iu per ml is 10mcg per IU. So for that concentration, 5 clicks on a slin pin, no matter what size, will be 50mcg. I actually have .3cc slin pins, BD Ultrafine II's, 31g .3cc. 5 clicks is 50mcg, and I'm using that twice a day for 100mcg/day, so each 1mg vial lasts 10 days.
