i am inexperienced in handguns and there has been a rash of kickdoor robberies in my area and it has happened 4 times during the day in my apt complex, my dilemma is i am in retail so my off days are during the week and i am scared that someone my be hopped up on something and kickdoor me while i am chilling on the net or playing xbox.. i am wanting to have a surprise for em if they decide to do it to me, what type of handgun do you recommend? I am wanting a semi-auto 9mm, .40cal or .45cal which gun do you prefer and what type of brand is in highest quality?

i was thinking in terms of having it readily accessible, lets say i am veggin in front of the t.v playing xbox and wham! the door gets kicked in..i want to be able to grab and shoot. i never thought about missing and shooting thru the wall good point.

9mm would be your best bet for the chance that you may miss the target. Thing is though if they're hyped up on PCP it'll take more shots to bring them down. It's a good or bad thing depending on how accurate you can shoot, and how much you enjoy pumping lead into bad guys.

if its a grab and shoot a shotgun with buckshot will do the job nice

like rex said a.45 will go through the wall and you dont want any innocent people ending up dead
if you do get a handgun take a course to learn how to use it right

rest assured i will be taking the class, and i was thinking about the whole pcp thing as well..this is why i was thinking .40 or .45cal

Buckshot will tear some shit up too. Birdshot would be better for close quarters.

Oak hit on a very good point. Get proper training for it. Someone a while ago asked how to unload a weapon with rounds in it.

saddly if you shoot an intruder you may be sent to prison, I would check the state/country regulations

also go check out an indoor shooting range, they have many different guns you can try out so you can see what you like before you buy them

Sad, but true. Though I'd rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6.
