I started a new job this week. The organization is relatively unstructured, however I am a new department (product mgmt) that reports to mkting, however I have to interact w/ everyone to coordinate projects, define new product efforts, etc. There are some standard processes that come w/ the position (i.e. Product Development LIfecycle). This company has NONE of that stuff formally in place, so I'm trying to put together some basic powerpoints of the communication flow, the required documents, who is responsible for them, etc. As I'm new to the company I don't really know who does what - therefore I have no idea who are the right people to circulate my proposals too. So I send an email to my boss w/ one particular doc attached to it. My question was - who do i send this to to get the conversation started.
So no response from yesterday - he probably saw the msg on his Blackberry &^ didnt' look at the attachment yet. So today I'm trying to lock him down for 2 sec to ask if he saw the attachment & who do I send it to. Except he's runnign aroundt alking to other people and doing a lot of that bullshit joking that people do at work around work conversations. Except I can't get in 2 sec to freekin ask a question that is serious - like it kills the joke ambiance. So while I'm waiting for a moment to break in & ask my question, the CTO comes walking in & the conversation continues w/ the runnign jokes & shit but now since the CTO is talking, you don't interrupt. So I finally get to ask the quetsion as my boss is walking away. So he says no he didn't get a chance to see the attachment but then comments thx for makign me say that in front of the CTO. Which is like - WTF? I"m trying to fuckign do the job they hired me for but I can't get a response in my emails so I try to ask and i dont' get the time of day to just get the short answer. And of course it has to be when it looks bad to ask the question in front of the CTO.

This is the sort of shit I cant' stand when I dont' have a clear reporting structure - they expect me to do "some work" but won't give me the time of day to answer basic questions when I'm trying to do things & engage the right peopel but I don't know who the fuck they are because I just started.
