Well if his morals were this great and he supposedly "did the right thing" by turning the offer of king down, then why did he kill the priest at the begging of the movie?

He was basically a good guy, the priest did the medieval equivelant of calling his dead wife a dirty whore(she's burning in hell as a suicide), he had just lost his child, and the priest stole the crucifex from her dead body. Well, the US is technologically advanced and our leaders didn't consider the possibility of a country with the ethic,religious and political/clan history of Iraq not accepting us as welcomed liberators.
