I just watched Alexander for the first time and....

It will NEVER happen again. These days a Kalashnikov is CHEAPER than a good sword. Hell theres like 4 people in the world who could still make a decent sword. theyre expensive. this kind of war is over

I enjoy the ancient warrior type movies, Troy, Alexander etc, Back when the worth of a man was focused upon his courage and integrity, rather than on his sexual preference. We now celebrate cowards, as long as they are not gay.

Even though, I do think the bedroom scene could have been left out, it wouldnt have altered what was going on. Too much information thank you.

I have just finished the book "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield. Fictional story about the actual 480bc battle between the Spartans and the Persians at Thermapylae, a narrow gap in the mountains. If this type of warfare intersts you, read that book. Steven Pressfield did his background research, and the gore in the book is awesome. Face to face killings.

It´s not as simple as that.

When of identical twins, one is gay, there´s a 50% chance that the other twin is, too. Whereas only about 10% of people are.

So that´s still a strong genetic link.

It is not directly genetic, that is proven. But of course genetics can determine the biological circumstances that are more likely to produce it.

True, only a handful of smiths still make battle quality swords and those are sold as novelty items.

I've often wondered if one day energy weapons might put us back into the world of hand-to-hand because in theory any kind of attack wastes energy getting to the target before it can finally destroy it, so there might come a day when body armor is strong enough so that they only effective way to attack it is with a energy weapon that looks more like a sword then a blaster. Of course this is pure theory.

Even if this never becomes true I think it is safe to say that no amount of technology will ever totally replace a knife in the dark.

I heard one of the boys say, "Did you get yours?" ..... And one groaned and answered: "Yeah, where did he shoot you?"

"In the guts."

"Me too, the dirty bastards."

"The last sound I heard from our men was [one] calling his wife's name. Then I heard some German boys as they died calling for their mothers. ..... I felt sorry for those youths who were calling, 'Mütter, Mütter.'."

In the early morning of June 12, Major Hugue Lapointe of the Régiment de la Chaudière led his company through the streets of Rots and witnessed the surreal results of the previous night's battle in the village: "The commandos lie dead in rows beside the dead SS. Grenades are scattered all over the road and in the porches of the houses. Here we see a commando and an SS man, literally dead in each other's arms, having slaughtered each other. There, a Canadian and a German tank have engaged each other to destruction and are still smouldering, and from each blackened turret hangs [a] charred corpse."

I know, there is alot of good shit out there. I was just keeping it in line with the thread. I have enjoyed many of Sven Hassle's books too, set in WWII.
