I just bought a pump 12 gauge shotgun. Let anyone come thru my door now.

At close range, birdshot will make for a pretty effective removal of tissue. For defence purposes, slugs or buck are better overall because they still have power after penetrating clothing, walls, etc. And retain more velocity over distance. Just go to Kmart or whatever, they will have what you need.

LMAO

If you actually shot someone with a 12 gauge slug it would put a hole big enough for you fist to fit thru. The entry wound would be about an inch in diameter, the exit would be about 6".

if it makes you feel more of a man by hidding behind a gun, go for it

That's why I own 100% working replicas of a Danish Battle Axe, English Footman's hammer, and a German Morningstar. I'll literally go Medieval on an intruder.

OO Buckshot is the way to go for home defence, you have to TRY to miss.

Almost forgot, http://www.sword-n-stuff.com is where I purchased my axe and hammer. :D

This is likely my next purchase,

Bec De Corbin
Fighting on foot in the lists was one of the more popular portions of the Tournament. Not only was it fun for the participants and spectators, it was also great training for real warfare when the initial clash ended up hand-to-hand. The weapon most used in these combats was the pollax (Poll referring to the head, rather than being on a pole). We have copied one of the favorite weapons of the French; they called it Bec De Corbin or "Raven's Beak". With a top spike, back spike, a four-pronged hammer head and langets, this was a fearsome weapon. Mounted on an ash shaft, it is well suited for hand-to-hand combat. There are several treatises on the use of the pollax which involve blocking, striking and using the butt to smash feet. Considered a knightly weapon, the Bec De Corbin was used for foot combat, and was particularly effective against full plate armor. Overall- 68 1/2", Head- 7 3/4" x 5 1/2", Wt.- 4 lbs.

why don't you just get a bat? that way you won't shoot your grandmother or someone trying to surprise you on your birthday.

If Granny is breaking into your house at 4:00 AM knowing you have a shotgun perhaps natural selection should be allowed to take its course?:D

#1. The spirit of this whole thread is immature. "Let anyone come thru my door now?" Biteme, if you "don't know shit about guns" you have little bussiness owning one. It's your right to do so, but you have the responsibility to learn about it.

I'm not sure if you're being serious here, but this is a pretty ignorant statement. I agree that many fools get guns to feel like badasses. However, there is a big distinction between hiding and enabling yourself to keep your wife, sister, daughter, son, mother, yourself - any family member - from being raped and murdered by some cracked up thug.

At close range #9 birdshot will make a 12 (or 16, or 20, or whatever you're using) gauge hole through the sternum and out the spine of an intruder. Buck shot or a slug will do the same, only it will continue to do it with your sleeping neighbor across the street. #6 or #5 shot is MORE than enough to penetrate, break bones, and destroy organs using 2 3/4 inch standard charge loads out of a twelve or twenety gauge shotgun.

So we'd just baseball bat grandma instead?
