i hate making decisions

hehehehehe...I never knew you were this neurotic.

i hide it really well. :)

I'm usually so layed back that nothing bothers me... except my own self. But i think attention to detail is what has gotten me where I am.

I mean, in general, not at the moment, which is on my living room floor with my dog licking my toes.

It can be stressful. Just find a way to manage your stress better and not have that reaction again next time you have to make a big decision. Maybe by detaching yourself from the situation. Maybe imagine someone else who you respect making the decision and see if you agree with it. That way you probably won't feel the pressure so much as your mind won't recognise it as you making the decision.

i also obsess over things i've done and said and worry that i did the right thing.

like today....

a guy i work with- he is neither above or below me in the chain of command, and he is a bit of a goofball (as am I), came to my office and said (for some totally unknown reason): "can you get me a can of compressed air?"

so. i said, "yeah. can you get me a tampon?"

because he's always friggin' asking me for office supplies because he knows i love them and have a lot. but wtf, do i look like the keeper of canned air?

then i worried about how inapropriate it was for me to say 'tampon'.

...and this is just a lack of confidence. Again you can use your imagination to fix this. Imagine watching the perfect you. A you who doesn't worry about silly things that you might have said and is super confident. Imagine how it would feel to be this person and what it would be like to see the world through the eyes of this person. Would they worry about something so silly? No they'd just go about their business and what's more nobody would be surprised with things they say because they's expect it from someone so confident. 'Step into' the body of this perfect version of you and maybe sing a tune you like in your head while doing so. Next time you worry about making a decision you make just start singing that tune again to bring back what it feels like to be that confident person.

If you practice this then you will get better at it and i guarantee you that you will become morem confident with decision making...and people will see you as more confident which will in turn make things easier for you. Have fun.

I am by far no where near a perfectionist..
But I am the same way. I hate making decisions. Even the simplist question such as peas or corn for dinner and I cannot choose. I generally just say "whatever you want" to everything. Who knows, maybe it is a fear of choosing the wrong answer and messing up, I dont know.. I just know that I hate it

damn. you're so right. i've used this technique my whole life and never really thought of it until now, because advancing my career wasn't really a concern. i mean, not that it is so much now, but i was kind of thrust into it.

i'm going to start applying this monday. thanks!

No problem. The mind is a powerful tool if you program it correctly but when it goes wrong it can really mess you and your confidence up.

Also ...do it now. It only takes a second to begin a change. The great thing about using your imagination is that you don't need to actually be in work.
