I got into a fight...

...once again. 23rd street fight I've been in. it sucked. The guy swings at me with a right cross, i dodge to the left of it, counter with 3 punches to his face. He goes to the ground, but not before he grabs onto my shirt on his way down, pulling me on top of him. He tried to flip me off of him, but i keep my base and elbow him in the head 3 times, opening 3 nasty cuts on his head. I jump up, hoping its over while standing above him, ready to counter if he tries anything. He tries to spring up at me, but I roundhouse kick him as he does, sending him back to the ground. its over. I feel like shit because I try for 25 minutes to get out of this fight, but the guy wouldn';t quit. More on this later.

if you tried for 25 mins to get out of the fight, why hadn't you just left?

There are lots of reasons to avoid a street fight when possible, blood contamination is one, and like you said....cuts were opened.

Also, why are you throwing closed fist punches? Again you risk exchanging blood, since you can easily cut your knuckles, or even break the bones in your hand.

But good that you didn't stay on top of him for a ground and pound, since you never know when a buddy of his is gonna kick you in the face.

The fight happened in the middle of nowhere, and i couldn't just start walking. There was no chance of anyone jumping in. It happened right on gravel, and my elbows and knees are still scabbed and bruised. The closed fist punches came from my muay thai kickboxing training, they just came without thinking, just reacting. I'm 36 and getting too old for this stuff, and after all these years, and numerous battles, not to mention broken nose three times, chipped teeth, numerous scars and about 22 stitches in my face altogether, I'm really ready to drop my interest in the martial arts. It feels like crap when you get your face pounded for no good reason, but feels pretty crappy when you do it to someone else, too. Sure, there are some good reasons sometimes to have to do it, but for most people, the situation will never come up to actually physically kick someone's ass. Has anyone else ever had "butt-kicker's remorse"?

great story - and good that you reacted so fast.

But, I have a few questions -

1. why did this even start?
2. as alcohol involved?

Another thing, like you mentioned that you are 36, isn't it a bit much that you are still fighting in the street? If it were a mugging situation, or something similiar, I understand, but Jesus...

Good point. You might as well had sex with the guy with the amount of contamination involved.

One of my training partners from Kickboxing gave it up becasue he "felt bad" hitting an opponent in the ring. It just wasn't his nature. Too bad since he had a lot of talent.

Note: why did you jump up.? Just choke him out and let him sleep. No blood, no bruises, No real damage and you walk away at leisure.

If you are sure you are alone, then a choke would work nicely. Just make sure you don't get too excited and hold the choke for too long, then he will do more than just sleep.

It's never really bothered me, kicking someone's ass that deserved it.

Hurts much less than a broken nose, dotted eye, or busted up hand.
