I don't get it... I can't run Quake 4 on highest settings?

I have a e5200 dual core pentium with 4 gigs of ram and a Geforce 9500GT 1gig video card.

It's not a world class gaming system, but it's way more than efficien to play a two year old game.

I can run quake 4 flawlessly on 1024x768 resolution at ultra high settings, but when I above that resolution with anti aliasing on it starts to lag like shit.

Is it due to my system or my monitor? My monitor is pretty crappy I think. It has a refresh rate of 60hz. Could that be the reason why the game is lagging or is it my system?

I'm just a bit disappointed that my system can't run a two year old game at highest setting. I can run games like farcry 2 in medium to low settings, crysis in medium setting and almost any recent games in lower settings.

"There's a good game in Quake 4, but it's buried under several layers of highly disappointing graphical performance issues."

Either the game is glitchy or your gpu has issues running it at high resolutions+AA. Make sure you have the lastest driver from Nvidia. What resolution are you running it at? It should run better than Far Cry 2 and Crysis regardless though.

If you're really serious about PC gaming, get a better graphics card with GDDR5 and at least 1 gig of VRAM.

I'm currently running quake 4 on ultra high settings 1024x768. If i Try to run like 1200x??? then it starts lagging.

I just don't understand why I can't run this at top setting. Maybe gamespot is right about graphical performance issues. It's weird because when quake 4 was released, the nvidia geforce 9500gt wasn't even out yet. They never even heard of 1 gig of video ram back then...
