I think she should get a job then if she wants to go back to school she can pay for it herself.....like 1000s of other kids do....
atleast part time.

btw, what degree(s) do you have?

What's a retake?

I thought a failure is a failure......

Failure is failure. But universities arent stupid, they know that complete retards dont make it university and that their reason for failing may be for other reasons not dealing with academics. If they continue to fail, then the institution tells the student that this probably isnt whats fit for them and gives them their thank letter.

Here, a re-take would replace a previous failure. But if you fail the retake, then yeah...totally pointless. I replaced a D with a B last semester...NIU allows you do to it a couple times. Gave my GPA a lil boost.

my freshman year I'm not sure I had a 4.0 if you added the GPA of all three quarters together. One of my high school buddies came very close to flunking out. He now has a B.S., Masters and a J.D.

lol, first semester I got a 1.8, needed a 2.0 by the end of the year to stay which I did easily. 3.4 and 3.5 this year, I learned :)

Wow...I went to two schools and never heard of retakes.

1.0 is like not even going to class anymore.....

I have an Assoc. in Science (general) --> parents paid for that.........I also have an Assoc in Accounting + a BS in Accounting --> both of which I got by going to school at night

How do you fuck up a full scholarship? I can gaurantee she was skipping almost all of her classes. Still...I did that and still at least managed to pass them w/ C's . Was it a local college? Or was she away from home....?

It's a community college -- they offer 2 year Associate Degrees. Right around the corner from her house....

Her step-dad is is pretty upset -- he's had a very hard year with 2 of his own kids. He got her this scholarship (paid for EVERYTHING) thru his job & he's pretty upset. Her mom is freaking out....

Just found out my step-daughter has FAILED out of college......her step-dad worked his butt off to get her a scholarship & due to her 1.0 GPA -- she's lost it. Her classes this semester included 1 failure + 3 retakes.

UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE!!

Her parents have babied her for quite some time -- IMO she should be on her own!! Not thrown out of the house -- but time to get a FT job & enough with the BS going out, etc......
u just found this out after a year of college?

shiiz.

most kids fail their first year of college supposedly anyhow, so i say make her get a job beat the shit out of her and make her feel really crappy, but in the long run give her one more chance to prove herself (not sure on her background and past shenanagins, but from a neutral standpoint, thats my suggestion).

btw, is she hot?

She's young, they do dumb things. IMO the worst thing you can do is to make it harder for her to go to college. I had friends that their parents did that to them and they never went anywhere while others parents stuck by their side through the bad grades and they turned out great and pulled it out of the mud. Being disappointed is one thing but making her work in the real world instead of keep working at it in college is nuts, seriously, she needs an education in this world to make it and Im sure someone will retort oh she blew it, she should have to suffer blah. If my kid ever blew it like that, Id redouble my efforts in keeping them in college not flipping burgers somewhere wasting their youth when they should be in college classrooms.
