Hurt back while deadlifting

Three weeks ago I was at the gym deadlifting, and I had just moved onto my second set. I was on my way to doing 205 when all of the sudden I feel a crack as I bring the weight up. The crack was on the left side of my back in the Thoracic (Middle I believe) region.

It's been almost three weeks and the pain has subsided and is almost gone on my left side, but now the pain has shifted to my right side and I feel it in an even wider area. I had a theory that this is just due to overcompensation of my right back since the left was hurt, but my friends say that my right side is swollen.

Anyway though, I'm seeing my doctor tommarow and I might get an X-ray scheduled.
In the meantime, does anyone have any similar experiences/storys about hurting your back? I feel like a moron, should have paid better attention to form...

Stretch, see a massage therapist and a chiropractor. IMO, General Practitioners are totally useless in situations like these.

I did the exact same thing. I was doing a 1RM effort and I jerked the weight off the ground instead of pushing through my heals and slowly squeezing it up. Anyway, time heals all wounds. Ice it, rest and lighten the load for a while. Good luck.
