hurricane rita is forcing my hand........

its tracking this way, maybe, hopefully to the east.

its 1:45am, ive drank my last beer. i just boarded up the last door.

my brother and nieghbor are gone. we are having a meeting in the morning and will evaluate the situation. cat3 with an indirect hit and were staying.

im eating some eggs and bacon, and were holding a meeting right now. it looks like it might hit as a cat 4 or high cat 3 just north of us. putting us on the clean side.

were going to assess the situation in another hour or two.
 
good luck sponge, looks like the worst that will happen to you is a lot of rain and you are going to lose power
do you have a lot of trees by your house with big branches? you may want to trim those up real quick if you can
 
i am in houston and chose not to leave..i am in west houston by highway 6 and i-10 so we should get bad winds and rain but nothing life threatening, its crazy driving around this a.m and seeing all the trash and cars/trucks that are abandoned..looks like i am in a movie
 
its the flooding and winds that will get us. were looking at logistics, storm track, storm strength and hotel availability. we are assessing the data and are calling for a meeting in an hour or so. its 50/50 right now on leaving or staying.

Chances are looking better sponge. She is starting to weaken somewhat. Looks like she has ingested some dry air and has caused her to start falling apart. Looks more like Lake Charles area will get a direct hit.

Still a powerful storm and you will get winds and wind damage but your area doesn't look to be lost to Rita. LA will get hammered though.

yea it has to still make that suspected north turn though.

yea i hope it will continue to weaken in the shallow waters too.

the way it spins, even though i might be on the clean side. we get an initial storm surge in the front and then when it makes landfall the upper left quandrant pushes some inland waters back on top of us. maybe only a 4ft surge though.
 
good luck bro. be safe and don't panic when/ if things get bad. I had to almost smack my dad around during Katrina cause he was flippin' out so bad.

yea we have decided to ride this out. were not quite sure what were in for. most likely we'll get by on the clean side.

were experiencing about 20mi winds so far, no biggie.

ill post till the power goes out.

which wont be but a couple of hours probably. im looking out my window and watching my power line swinging madly already. goddamn power company, i told them to change it out two weeks ago. its old and sagging very low already.

we have two video cams and digital cameras.

lol, yea i just went outside and strung my extention cords out and hooked up my electric pole chain saw. i took care of that tree real quick. i got it off the wire and trimmed the whole thing down in about 10min. they filmed me.

wind has definitely picked up a lot.

yea were making videos and calling it 'bubba's last minute preprarations'.

we just boarded up yesterday. had to use a bunch of scraps and expensive birch plywood. the stores sold out with a quickness.

yea heres that wire. the bush's right below it had a tree coming out the top and already hung up on my wire. you can see the tree on the ground.
 
Be safe Sponge...My Mom's computer programmer spent all day yesterday putting her companies computers up high and in plastic bags...yikes. :worried:

wow, that is pretty low lol. I'm surprised the the company hasnt done anything about that. It looks like you could jump up and touch it.
 
i believe we were spared. they have it tracking north now and hitting TX/la border. whew!

good call humorme. i dont know how you called that so early. but you called it perfectly.
