HP Brings Back TouchPad Tablet for One Last Run

If the going-out-of-business announcement turned out to be a publicity stunt, it would be one of the best marketing gimmicks of all time.

I wonder what the biz impact was

Sure people considered other tablets or possibly HP notebooks/netbooks, etc ...

Knot too ingenious since it costs HP approx. $200/unit to sell them @ $99

It would be a great idea for getting an installed base out there.

That's part of what has Apple going. When I go into work, I don't even bother bringing an iPad or iPhone charger since I know there will be dozens there.

$319 to manufacture and sell it around half of that? Fuck it.

Its a win for the customer if you got one at $100/$150
A potential win for HP if they tap into this newly founded base with a mega dump of apps in the catalog

per the comment in the article:

Of course, there are naysayers in every crowd. Take the blogger Paul Thurrott. “The TouchPad was worthless when it was fully supported,” he said on PCWorld. “So it’s beyond worthless now.”

costs less than a kindle and does way more, hence it's worth it for me....

I'd still want a marginal amount of support and updates. What happens if there's a security breach found on the device? Do you keep using it, or shelve it?

Like what? Hackers being able to remotely detonate people's touchpads?

I plan to use it no matter what. It's no iPad but its pretty cool for what it is.

i want one for 100

What would you do if a known security breach was found? Windoze exploits pop-up every day.

So you rely and mooch on the people who have their shit together enough to bring a charger to work with them?

Yeah, I mooch their electricity too. I used to carry around my own diesel generator, but turns out my plugs fit into their 120V sockets.
