just be honest with her, you obviously care about her so she deserves this.

As for beign friends, don't expect it to happen right away. It usually isn't possible until the feelings on both sides are gone. But it can happen eventually.

I am very good friends with my high school sweetheart who I dated for 5 years. We weren't friends for about 4 years after our breakup but for the last 8 years have been great friends.

Sorry to hear about your situation! There's never an easy way to do it! But you say that you're 21 & you want to be single etc., then why would you move onto another girl?! The reason you lost interest in your girl is b/c of the new girl - first watch out 'cause what goes around eventually comes around. Don't have much expectations w/ this girl either - things happen. Enjoy being young & single & don't lead this new girl on. Let her know what you're looking for. Also, fyi: whenever you meet someone new, they're ALWAYS "perfect". Remember, they're NOT perfect & quite frankly neither are you - the object is to see if you're perfect together.
