How quickly do you have to load carbs/protein after lifitng?

here is my deal, I am trying to SHED bf. I am on Eq/Fina (literally just started) and want to go from 192, 13%, 5'11 to 192 and 8%.

I have decided cardio is the key and so I am going with a 6on, 1off schedule where I lift one BP a week and then do cardio right after for 1hr.

MY QUESTION: Isn't is necessary right after lifting to load some kind of protein or carb into my system (ie. wont waiting for my PW shake a little more than 1 hr after my last lift hurt my gains??). I guess I could slam like a 30g protein zero carb isopure in between the weights and cardio (also, I drink a gatorade while doing cardio).

THANKS a ton bros!

Carbs are more important post workout then the actual protein itself , to restore glycogen pools. Alot of the pro's actually drink a can of Coke post workout although im sure thats on a bulking cycle i would think..... There are a couple good post workout drinks out there now that have a nice blend of Protein/Complex Carbs/and simple carbs *which absorb fastest*. There pretty expensive though and best to buy in bulk rather then pay 4$ a drink =/

Thanks for your reply, but you're missing my question. I am wondering:

Is it necessary to load protein and/or carbs IMMEDIATELY after lifting, or will waiting 1 hr to do so hamper my results?

Ive always kind of wondered the same thing?? I will be switching gyms soon and I will have a 30 minute drive home.

I mix 45g of whey protein with 50g of dextrose and down that right my workouts.

it's cheap and effective

I recall from a Covert Bailey video series from like 10 years ago, that there's a window of 30 minutes to an hour after exercise where any simple carbs ingested are used almost exclusively to restore muscle glycogen levels. So after I workout, I just add a couple of tablespoons of dextrose powder to my protein shake. Makes it yummy and sweet.

lol...im wondering the same thing as well...everyone keeps missing the question though...PWO right after lifting then Cardio is what he is trying to say...or lift/cardio then a PWO almost an hour later (this would be when he would be done with cardio)...would this hurt his gains?

I've heard a post workout shake should be consumed in under 20 minutes of the conclusion of your workout. I believe Ian King said something to the effect of you should finish your shake before you stop sweating. Have you considered sipping 1/2 your post workout shake as you lift weights to avoid a huge drop in glycogen levels, then doing your cardio and having the 2nd 1/2 after cardio? Just a thought.

This is just personal experience, I'm not sure how long the window is. I work heavy bag for about a half hour after I lift, personally I bring my post workout shake to the gym and drink it when I go to the car to get my bag gloves.

Absolutely, have it right after working out. The sooner, the better.
