I am just wondering how long everyone trains for? Some say that they train for less than an hour and feel great rather than pushing 1+ hours. Do you think that testosterone levels have decreased to a point that diminishes the effectiveness of the workout? How could you measure how much time you spend on certain body parts like ex. Legs vs Biceps and what your test levels are after 40 minutes working each on a different day?

as long as you are not standing around bullshitting with other people in your gym you should be able to do a complete workout on 2 muscle groups in about 45 minutes.

Right now 60 minutes of cardio in the morining on an empty stomach. 1 hour of lifting at night, followed by another hour of cardio. Trying to rip it up :D

when i train for weight loss, sometimes im in there for 2 hours just lifting, im not over training cuz i dont get sore and i still see a ton of growth, so i think im ok... unless you guys know something i dont

If you can't do what you need to do in an hour, you're either lifting too infrequently or are messing around too much between sets. Get in, get out, get growing.

If clean, then I would go with what most of you have said - less then an hour. However, I figure, if your on, you may as well make use of the extra test, and go an extra 20-30 minutes. Surely all the gear does is to speed recovery, thus enabling you to train harder then usual, and so grow faster.

45 minutes to an hour.

I get my cardio riding my buike to and from the gym. 15 Minutes each way. Plus theres like hills and shit so its more strenous than just sitting on a stationary buike.

45 min cardio, 1 hour lifting, 1 our bullshittin with buddies. Gotta cut that hour of bullshittin out. So many bullshitters at my gym that love working out their jaw.

1 hour and 15 minutes of lifting then 20 minutes of cardio.

Now that I do no more than an hour, 4 x a week , I am finally making some serious gains. All those years of 2 hr sessions were definitly counterproductive. A gram of assorted AS coursing thru my veins every week doesnt hurt either!

I've said it before

You can work hard or you can work long.
Not both.
Work hard.
I'm out in 45min 4x/week.

Hmm. I've read that as an ectomorph you should rest a little longer between the sets. I rest about 90 secs on small musclegroups and about 120 secs for back and legs. I always spend about 90 mins at the gym..that's how long it takes. I've got the impression of this beeing a good thing but perhaps I'm wrong?

45 min. on the weights, and 20 -30 min. on the cardio.
very rarely go over 45-55 min. on the lifting end.

this may sound stupid, but i workout to music cd's most are between 45-70mins. now i pretty much got everyone down and know what im training and what i'll play. works good for me, sometimes helps to really squeeze out those last few.
so approx. 50 mins for me

Working our for more than an hour turns me into a vegetable(sp) between workouts. I push myself very hard while I'm there. Lots of people look dumbfounded at the amount of weight my mediocre sized muscles can push. If I was very big, I would be so strong it would be scary.

A little more than an hour but not much. Protein breaks down in one hour of a tense workout. If I have to go longer than an hour.....I'll have a supplement on hand.

My time varies on the group or groups and i always train with my training partner but anywhere from 1 to 2 hrs on weights. So far i have never done cardio although i keep telling myself to start, it just never happens.

I actually do two hours of training somedays. What I do is split the workout into two workouts two times a day. In between the workouts I like to take a nap for about an hour. Every morning I spend 45 - 60 minutes doing cardio. I feel this is very effective for me and each body part gets adequate training and rest between sets. Most of the guys at my gym are pretty hardcore so we don't BS very much.

I disagree with no cardio while bulking. That is just my opinion. As I mentioned in another post cardio has more effects than just fat-burning.

Why? You are going to have to provide some proof for a statement like that. I disagree 100% with that statement. Conveince me you are right! Please ( would love to only have to spend < 1 hr in the gym a day, and still get the kick ass results that I get with, 1-2 hour workouts daily!

Ash I assume that you do believe that it is possible to overtrain and if you do, how long would say a workout has to be before it is considered overtraining?
In trying to make my point I'll use the physiques of two very different athletes. The endurance athlete who works long and hard has the physique of a stick insect and the sprinter eg. Donovan Bailey, Ben Johnson or Maurice Greene who do short, explosive workouts and have the sort of physiques that the majority of people on this board are striving for!
You only have to look to Dorian Yates for a bodybuilding example, he took mass building to a new level and he did so using H.I.T. with only one working set per exercise!
Even the great Lee Haney said that the idea is to "stimulate not annihilate the muscle" because to do anything beyond that is counter-productive due to excess cortisol production and I know that these are exactly the reasons that we use A.S. but it is widely believed that you can enhance their benefits by working smarter not longer!

If I'm training one body part, I usually take around 25-30 minutes... If I'm training two (not usual) I will take double that time. Some parts go faster than others... like arms... while Legs... well, they take some time. :)

to answer the question in an earlier post....

testosterone levels peak in approxiamately 45 during a workout and dramatically decline after 1 hr.

I cannot reference the sportsmed article or the study but I do remember it was a very legit study.

get it done and get out....

45 mins roughly per session... 3times per week... plus way too much cardio (I enjoy it) ,say roughly 5 hours cardio a week... (swimmming, cycling, walking).

I've tried more and less volumn. I think it depends by person, and obviously if your using AS you can take more punishment. Lee Priest says he does 30 sets just for bis.

HIT-type workouts did not work for me. I do more vol. and lift heavy so I have to take greater rests between sets. If I do not rest like 3 minutes between sets,I don't feel like I recover enought to tackle another heavy set. I lift so about 1.5-2 hours 6x/week.

aside from time being an issue, how many exercises/sets for large and small muscle groups do you all prefer.

I TRAIN 2 HOURS , 2 MUSCLE GRPUPS ON MON WED FRI AND SATURDAY.
MY LAST WORKOUT WAS SO INTENSE I RAN IN THE BATHROOM AND PUKED AFTER I WAS DONE..DAMN I LOVE THOSE WORKOUTS!!!!!!!LACTIC ACID AINT SHIT TO ME!!!!!

Studies have shown that while test levels are dropping off dramatically after one hour, that cortisol production increases dramatically at the same time! I find it hard to believe that some people actually train for two hours EVERY DAY!!!!
