i train wsb style, and i never do more than 10 sets per bodypart..... except maybe on speed days.

my body reacts better to high intensity, short intervals than lower intensity long intervals. So i'm only doing 4 sets per exercise, 1 exercise per bodypart using a pyramid method. I will do as many reps as i can with a certain weight (5 or so), then lower the weight and do a few more (3 or so). Doing that for 4 sets seems to work but i'm not sure if 4 sets is enough. How many sets per bodypart are you doing.

i like to do about 20 sets of board presses on my 2 bench days in a week. pretty high volume

on my other assistance exercises it's only 2-3 sets

For most body parts, 5 work sets while on. Here is an example of a chest routine:

Low incline press 2 work sets
weighted dips 3 work sets.

When I am off, I do no more than 2-3 sets per bodypart.

I don't think I ever go over 9 work sets. rep ranges are from triples to 5x5 to 21, depending on Light/Heavy day.

do you guys think it matters that i only do 1 exercise per bodypart? i have no complaints so far but i am wondering if i am shorting myself. I doubt it since working a muscle is working a muscle.

Depends on body part and, as Swain said, the program.

Most of the time I do 10-14 for the larger muscle groups (legs, back), 9-12 for chest, then around 8 or 9 for bi's, tri's and shoulders.

It's crazy to go back and read Arnold's Encyclopedia where he's doing chest and back in the same workout - 35 sets each. That's the stuff which I first used for lifting. I did 20 sets for bi's and couldn't figure out why my arms wouldn't grow...

I'm simply curious to how that works. Can you give an example of bench press?

For example, I'll go through a few warm-up sets (~3) then bench 225, 275, 295, and 315. I usually count that as 4 sets although the last set is truly the only gut busting set.

How do you determine 1-2 sets?

Thanks.
