Re: How many of you here believe in God, but have turned your backs on him? Or have y
have you discussed this here before? if so, can you find me a link? if not, i'd like to know exactly what you mean. in another thread, or a PM, if you like.
i'm curious.
Jackangel has exceeded his stored message limit, so everyone gets to read what I
was going to send to you via PM:
In virtually all wiccan/pagan/magickal traditions there's a way for deity to "manifest." In witchcraft and wicca, for instance, there's "drawing down" in which the god/dess actually "takes possession" of a priest or priestess in a ritual that is a consensual process. When it happens in Voudoo it's called "being ridden" by the gods, and they don't always take possession of just priests/priestesses and it's not always something that the person who is being possessed necessarily wants or even enjoys. In both of the circumstances I've mentioned the person who has been taken over the deity doesn't remember what they did or said and is really out of it. New agers call this shit channeling.
My tradition developed a technique called aspecting that is a little gentler. The priest/ess isn't completely out of it, so the connection between deity and this plane is more tenuous. The person who is aspecting deity usually doesn't remember clearly what they said or did, but they aren't totally out of control, either. This is one way I've met some gods and goddesses.
You can directly meet deity yourself if you do what shamans call journeying - in magickal traditions it's sometimes called pathworking. You basically enter a meditative state and move to another plane of existence, mentally. If you set the right intention at the beginning of your journey, it isn't very hard to meet a god/dess.
Before you ask, no, I haven't met Jesus. I'm not really sure he'd be anywhere I can access. Jesus isn't a god, but an elevated master so that's a whole other ball of wax, and he lives on a different plane from the gods.
And yeah, with doing the meditation and journeying stuff there was a long time I thought I was bullshitting myself. Then I received information
"up there" (and "down there" when journeying to the underworld) on several occasions that I had
no way of knowing. I stopped questioning it. Our species lives in one dimension of many, living side by side with a whole lot of entities. Most of us simply cannot perceive any of this with our normal senses -- and frankly, not really any reason to.
The simple truth is, nobody needs to be spiritual or religious for their life to accomplish what it's meant to. In fact, turning your back on what the human experience is in favor of spirituality/religion is sort of defeating the whole purpose of being alive.
Hope that answers some of your questions. If you have anything specific you want to know, fire away
