How long till humans go extinct?

How long do you think we have until we manage to cause an extinction event either due to our effect on the planet or direct nuclear extinction? Cant be long now....500 years? If that? I cant say it would be a bad thing. All we seem to do is destroy everything we get near anyway.

IN 500 YEARS WE WILL HAVE BEGUN THE INTERPLANETARY COLONIZATION PROCESS. IT WILL TAKE MUCH MORE THAN EARTHLY EVENTS TO FINISH OFF HUMANITY BY THEN.


OH YEAH, MY GUESS. I THINK IF IT HASN'T HAPPENED IN 150 YEARS, IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN FOR TENS OF THOUSANDS.

Actually scientists are discovering that the big meteor that supposedly finished off the dinosaurs was not all to blame. They think their was other factors that caused hundreds of species to become extinct and in turn causing the dino's to die. Birds are the last dinosaur species that was able to live despite the meteor- and we dont know why. They think we are setting ourselves up for our own extinction event and I am inclined to believe them. Look at the changing weather patterns we have today- especially in the NE of the US- the winters are getting warmer..very odd. 500 years is plenty of time with the rate we are polluting and seeing as we are not at all concentrating on the space program I dont see much colonization going in within the next 50-100 years. It will be 50 years at least before we get to Europa to study the frozen lakes.

Actually the Mayan Long Count Calendar ends on Dec 21, 2012. I believe that on this date the earth will suffer a cataclysmic event that will exterminate the human race. To be specific, I think the world will be blown up by the DeathStar.

Sorry but we are here to stay---considering we already have thousands of people living safely below the earth now and with cloning and the solving of our build up----the super human probably won't walk on top of the earth but go back in the water where it will be much more stable. Then once we can live for as long as we want, we can rid the planet of all the unneccary humans and their beliefs..

mezzanine, i have to agree with you. I think extinction is a very possible outcome for humanity. For the first time in history man's technology has the potential to cause extinction. This is a very dangerous situation because although man has advanced tremendously in terms of technology, human nature has not advanced at all. We are still just as savage, violent, superstitious, etc. as early man.
