How important is Sleep?

New member
I am getting ready to start a Sus/winny cycle. I know that when you are not at the gym is when you grow and the diet is very important. My problem is going to be getting the sleep I need. I go to school in the mornings( 8:00 am-2:30pm) and then off to work(3:30pm-12:00am). I work out in the mornings and weekends. I get around 5 hours of sleep. So how bad is this going to hurt my gains if everything else is in check. Should I wait to do cycle in a year when I am finished with school? Who am I kidding the gear is on the way and there is no way I am going to be able to wait a year once I get it. That would be like putting a hot, naked, nympho, on E in front of a guy on 1000mg of Test and expect him not to hit it.
I would appreciate any info given especially from guys that have done cycles in same situation.

buddy you need to learn before you touch the sauce. There's a triangle with key factors that should never be sacrificed. They are Training, nutrition and rest. Those are the key factors for building muscle. You drop one and you are wasting your time.

You asked how important is sleep?

divide 100 by 3 being 100 a hundred percent of your maximum developing potential and 3 the three key factors explained above.

100/3= 33.33333

The answer is, sleep represents the 33.3% of your muscle building progress. That's how important it is.

Very nicely said, couldn't of done better.

the gym is 33.33% of what you look like....the rest of it comes when you walk out those doors...thats a large percentage.

i agree with that 100%!

I'd say it's a crucial element in bodybuilding, but I know of, and have read about pros even, who don't get shit for sleep. I'd say it's like building a house without a nail gun, it's possible, but sloppy, slow, and not very efficient.

well i've heard that good cycles let u bypass the needs for sleep somewhat....though i can't attest to this personally as i haven't cycled thus far

I am 24 years old and will be 25 in July. I've been training hard since I was 19. I first started working out because I had to for football(16 years old). It was required. I didn't like it much at first, but started to like it real quick when body changed and girls started noticing.:)

What about getting the 5 thru the week and just sleep all weekend. Like on Sat and Sun get 14 hours of sleep?

That would help, as soon as your body can get used to the routine.

Just sleep at school. LOL Sleep is very important! If you don’t believe that try and do without it, I’ve noticed immediate loss of strength due to lack of sleep and vice versa.

you can't go wrong with this post

Personally, I think sleep runs a close second to eating. If you do not have enough sleep, your workouts will suffer because you are too tired. Also, muscle grows in the RECOVERY phase. Sleep is the optimum time for that. Just my opinion.

7/5ths of all people don't understand fractions. :D I forget who's avatar I stole that from.

I find that I need alot less sleep when I am on than off. I can grow well with just 5 hours a sleep during the week, but do crash on the weekends and sleep about 8 or 9 hours each on friday and saturday night. I think the sleep issues, like most things, is going to depend on the person. You will definetely need less sleep while on, so that is a plus for you no matter how you look at it. You may not do your best with less sleep, but you will do well.

i dont know where you saw that, but i can almost guarantee you that is a homer simpson quote lol

I think them amount of sleep one requires is very individual, some people need more and some need less, but we all need it. But, if you allways have gotten 8 hours of sleep a night and all of a sudden get are getting 5 a night, your work outs will suffer.

I have been on this schedule for awhile now, so I am uused to it. I actually feel better with less sleep for some reason. I think just to be safe I am going to get some extra sleep though. I will drop my first class and get an extra 1 1/2 hour sleep. I already have a job in what I am going to school for, so I am in no hurry to get the degree. I just want to finish it and have it on the resume. Plus its not bad meeting all the younger girls. lol
Thanks guys for all the help!

Sleep is diferent for everyone...some need more some need less. Its not the numbers tha tmatter. Its how you feel when you wake up...weather your soggy and tired...aching...or rested...energetic..and ready to tackle the day!

I have to disagree....sleep is more improtant that we imagine. I have read a number of articles that prove that we function better think more clearly and hear , listen and understand better when we get 8 hours of sleep a night. We all know as weight trainers that we will grow when we sleep. We become more rested to give us better wouts in the gym and as stated earlier we grow when we sleep.

I didnt say sleep wasnt very important...........I participated in anumber of stuides in college where we stuidied.....sleep paterns for Psychology. It is a proven scientific fact..that diferent peopel need diferent ammounts of sleep...for som epeople anything over 5 hours is overkill....some 6..some 7...some over.8......usualy anything over 89 hours is unproductive and negative.......There are cases where peopel work fine while getting 1-4 hours of sleep a night....or some who DONT SLEEP AT ALlL. As for the original poster...i would recomend 6-8 Hours. I myself...need alot of sleep. I try to get 8 hours.

That was mine I dont know who i stole that from just saw it on the internet one day and laughed and as for sleep i know you need it to grow but you need to understand your body is capable of doing 80,000 x more then you can imagine.. my friend is a navy seal and he went through training and they have a "hell week" where they do all their excercises and training and are only allowed 4 hours of sleep TOTAL in that entire week.. 15 minutes here and 15 minutes there is all ure body really needs (NOT when it comes to gaining muscle though)

Wow just realized that we spend 33% of our lifetime sleeping....damn what a waste of time. If I were to live to be a hundred years old....I would have slept for about 33 of the 100 years.....damn that sucks.

BTW this is if we sleep 8 hours/day

Exactly

I think you are all overplaying the importance of sleep here. Rest 33% yes, but sleep 33% no. If with 5 hours of sleep, you still find the energy to do a 45 minute long intense workout, and stick with an impeccable eating regime, i'd say go ahead with AAS (as long as you're ready otherwise!) Tho, if you can't perform your natural bodybuilding "duties" at the moment due to tiredness, don't touch AAS.

I think you guys are all full of crap about all that sleep being important. I shot up a gram of winny last night and slept for 13 hours and I am not any bigger. :nighty:

and yes I am joking.....geesh.
