how important are cheat meals

Sub-Zero

High End Bro

i try and eat as clean as possible for as much as possible but i was thinking of adding a deliberate cheat in there.

like once a month have a whole pizza, or a chipotle burrito.

what do u guys think, every 2 weeks, or every 4 weeks. what are the pros and cons of a cheat

cheat meal isn't necessary at all unless YOU need it - mentally.

Now, a clean carb-up or increased calorie meal is necessary every now and then to keep the body guessing.

But a cheat meal is not encessary. Personally - I can't do em. I have one snickers and that could set me off on a binge. Some people need that one cheat to keep em sane.

A pizaa once a month won't affect you in the long run -- at all.

I just ate a pint of Turkey Hill Peanut Butter Chocolate Cup Ice Cream and it was amazing. I may cheat once every several months.

i cant enjoy life unless i know im doing everything in my power to be as strong and muscular as i can be

ESSENTIAL, despite some claims otherwise.

A diet, especially one that limits carbs has been clinically PROVEN to lower thyroid production.

Ever notice the rate of fat loss slow dramatically??

Two reasons, both are interrelated:

1 - lowered metabolism(thyroid)
2 - over training

Carbs replenish and restore those imbalances.

Dont believe it??

Monitor your morning temp every day immediately before arising.

Keep a log, and watch is start to drop....when you hit 97.8 - add in a HUGE cheat meal and watch the temp inch back up.

none of what I just typed is opinion...its been proven in study after study

well i eat plenty of carbs. i eat carbs all day pretty much up untill my last 2-3 meals.

do us till recommend a cheat? how often should i have it? is a pizza a month a good plan?

since i have your attention, whats your opinion on fats and carbs? ANPB and ricecakes or wheat bread in specific

All depends on your chemical program ..... I know guys jacked to the 9's on T-3 who could eat a case of twinkies and never gain an once .

Diet is very specific to the individual , hard for one person to say how a cheat will effect another because it's impossible to know there metabolism .

In the offseason i cheat 2 times weekly
Wed night I have something high in fat(i.e. a slice of cheesecake)
Sunday mornings I eat a large pancake breakfast.

During Pre contest I dont Cheat AT ALL. But then again thats when Im on all the shit so my chemistry protocols monitor my metabolism.

Kepp a check on your temp....when it dips below 97.8 - add some clean carbs.

I eat and rec a 40p/30c/30f year round - even for cutting

btw - for the earlier comment - any dumbass can cut on twinkies while taking T-3

Duh.....

Sub, cheating once and a while will not effect your progress. I would say if you are working out reg. then cheat once a week. If you're slowing down on training, then try not to cheat. When I was working out almost daily, I ate many cheats and stayed in good shape.
I don't think a pizza once a while will hurt.

i appreciate your help

They help keep the mind and body focused and on course, ironically.

I doubt there are any scientific studies to support my claim, but my theory is there's a valid physiological reason you crave cheat foods. This attraction is natures way of telling you there's something useful in eating them. OK. I also like eating clean and am careful not to go overboard, but I think in the long it helps keep the machine on an even keel.

Hey Sublime,

I can only speak for myself. 1 pizza a month would do nothing to me physcially... BUT.... i get all psycho if I cheat. It's come to the point where i pretty much eat clean year round due to the guilt. So if u can do it with no guilt.... shit.. more powa to u.

I wonder if this is true for those who were borderline hypothyroid to begin with? Also Coconut is known for raising metabolism. But I read BoxerJake's response to this and yes it is person to person

fuck, so cheating is awful, even once a month

what about mixing healthy fats like ANPB and healthy carbs

My bad , I'm in kind of a lean mass mode , so yes 1 a month is too many. You may not have the same issue.

ANPB is ok The once I do are:
Coconut
Safflower
Whole Egg (yes I think whole egg is ok)
Olive Oil

When you say "Healthy" carbohydrates , do you mean complex?

I believe this also. I think the body has an interesting way of telling us what we need, but why would by body tell me to eat Doritos..haha!
I do believe this though

Having guilt is so good either! You need to cheat once and a while. Good for the soul!
Good on you though for eating clean all the time!

I hope one day you grow out of this. Maybe as you mature and find yourself with other things in your life that are more meaningful.

you've come a long way young grasshoper, for once I have to agree with your entire post

During the summer, after several months of pretty hard dieting, I throw in a cheat week here and there. . .at my age my body can only tolerate so much dieting before it begins protecting it's fat stores. . .gotta trick it into thinking that I'm not starving it to death. . .even though I am!
