How do you spot a squater?

Seriously, though, what is the proper form and pressure point? Spotting for bench work is self-apparent - but I don't quiet get how I go about spotting a squat or explaining to someone else how. I'm interested in seeing what my max is and don't want to have an accident.

Sort of like a cape? If he starts to fail, where do you apply pressure? From hip to hip and hands to arm pits?

open palms face up..... stand far enough back to not be in their way, but close enough to get some leverage. put hands on shoulder/pec area, generally pull up and slightly back. most powelifters like myself, miss a lift by starting to fall forwards, so a little bump back will have me up and moving again.
