how can i prevent throwing up?

wtf would you want to prevent that from happenning? unlness you just consumed a large ammount of protien why stop it. puking is the greatest. makes you feel better

You have food poisoning? (I think I read on another thread.)

Sucks as to have GI problems...

Hope you're feeling better soon. :)

Too late to help Saint but for future reference for anyone else the chance of vomiting can be reduced by keeping your mouth closed (dont speak, dont breath through it, keep it firmly shut) and take long, slow breaths through your nose.

LOL Anya, you just explained exactly what I do...It's been YEARS since I've thrown up... I just hate it & will do anything to prevent from doing so. Last time I did I was 11 years old! I don't know why I just HATE it - 'cause I'll keep going & going & going... you get the point. :qt:

Hey you are like me, I got me a Seinfeld streak of about 12-13 years of no throwing up.

When the stomach starts those violent contractions that make vomiting possible its very much like perostaltis (sp?) which are the continuous, rhythmic contractions of your GI tract that move food along its length. However, with vomiting we want those damn contractions to stop once the food has come up but like perostaltis they can also become persistent and continue long after the stomach has completly emptied its contents.

Plus barf flying up in your mouth is just nasty.

Don't let him put it that far back in your throat. It causes a gag reflex.

Ask AAP and Code about this.... They have experience.

I'm like MissJanet, i dont throw up from being sick. Last time i threw up like that was when i was 4 and i ate hot dogs with hawaiin punch and i ralphed red chunks everywhere. Since that time i have only puked from alcohol consumption and that was too many times i might add. But its been years.

Throwing up is reverse peristalsis.

I wonder what it is called when it comes out both ends? LOL

I know there are medications one can take to reduce the incidence of this. But if one is vomiting there is usually a reason for it, ie the body is trying to rid itself of a harmful agent or the GI tract needs to be empty.

Nobody hates to vomit more than me, but sometimes constant nausea makes it inevitable. I will take throwing up over constant nausea any day.

Misery!

well that sucked... not food poisoning but rather a vius that has been going around... i have puked one time since i was 12, so i knew something was wrong. Just got 2 bags of saline in an iv. I am pretty sure before they bloated me with saline that i could see my serratus and intercostals... i could definately feel them... like i said... major suckage.

surprised no one mentioned the acupressure points on the inside of your wrists.

they even make special wristbands with a plastic button that puts pressure on that spot for motion sickness.

I am glad that it wasn't serious.

Imagine feeling like this most of the time... THAT is major suckage.

BTW, If you get food poisoning, breathing in your nose wont prevent the stomach from pumping itself until it is empty, and even then dry heaves for a while.

If your GI tract needs to be purged for whatever reason no "trick" pressure points or breathing/whatever will stop it from happening.

Crackers...dry toast.....plain white rice........7-up that has been sitting for awhile so its pretty flat.....coke that is flat....

yeah they said no matter what i could not have prevented it :( i dunno how you bulimic girls do it.

Just do like me and refuse to. I'm a stubborn sob when I want to be. Haven't thrown up since the age of 16, unless you count the 2 times that I was passed out drunk, which I don't.

exactly what i was thinking beached. your body is doing what it is designed to: ridding it of toxins or a harmful microbe.

being nauseous is just f'n awful. especially when you know puking is inevitable. sure feels good when it is over though.
