How Big is to big?

_Yossarian_ said:
Well then, I guess you're just not big enough Div. Keep at it though bro, one day... ;)

hmm.....you got a point there, YossHoss....

I was in the Army and running all the fucking time.......but still I don't see how you think women are really intimidated by big guys.....usually women love them.

You can be 240lbs and athletic......it all depends on what exercises you do to keep your flexibility and your cardio.

Look at football players, not the OL/DL, but the other positions........those guys are up there in weight and still run fast and move laterally at the drop of a hat.

Not for my frame. Usually footplayers have larger bone structure. I have very thin bone structure which makes me appear twice as big as I really am. I agree you can be athletic, but even pro athletes sometimes have to drop weight to be their best. Ricky Williams was good when he weight 255, but awesome when he weighed 225. Sometimes the extra pounds really don't help at all atletically... unless you are an O or D lineman.

Div, I don't mean that my structure or size is too small muscularly. I mean that larger dumbells are longer right? Since I have narrower shoulders( which, you CAN'T change bone structure by training), if I press heavy dumbells, they'll actually clink together almost at the bottom of the press, they go all the way across my chest. I've inclined 120's before, but bigger than that, it's not the weight that I can't handle, it's just that the db's are so long I can't GET a stretch at the bottom. I can incline 300 weighing 185, so it's not strength that's lacking, i'm just not built wide enough to accomodate really long dumbells. Same reason I can't do overhead db tricep extensions, 130lb dumbells are just too damn long. But I agree with you on the benefits of incline db work, I do incline db flyes at the end of my workout, and flye presses too, my strength is dropped off enough by then that the dumbells aren't too wide to handle.

I was 260 at 11% 20months ago at 5"7,now 240 18% totally natural and have alot of pain assocatied with that weight,be careful what you wish for.

I see your point.....it's a body dynamic issue.

I never like flys for any large muscle group. I stick to the free weights mainly....

Well flyes ARE free weights, but maybe you meant you prefer compound to isolation exercises? Either way, yeah I always start off with at least one compound exercise, usually 2 or even 3, before moving on to isolation stuff, and even then I rarely use machines.

My life goal is 250 @5-7%bf, I'm 6'3. That means I'd be bigger than arnold :).

I'm sure that is too big though, but we'll have to see as I get older, still pretty young...
