Being a Gay man, I would like to put my input into this topic. Here in the state of Georgia, it too was on the ballot. It passed here as well, thats unfortunate. The only reason it passed here was because of they way it was worded on the ballot. Most people here did not even know that there was a second part to this Admendment. They didn't want it to be known that what they were actually voting on was the ban of All Civil Unions. Not just Homosexual, but also heterosexual. It will not recognize any union other than that of a man and a woman. No matter if it is recognized in another part of the world.
Here in Georgia we have some kind of law that prohibits a law that has more than one meaning ( I can not remember how it actually reads). For that reason alone it will be going to the courts to have it overturned. At least that it we are hoping for.
In my eyes, I personally dont want to Marry. I do however think that we should have the right to a Civil Union. It will allow us the rights that ALL heterosexual Married Cuoples get. I have been in my relationship for nearly 7 years. We had our Ceremony in 2000. We own a beautiful home, pay enormous taxes. We even have to pay school tax. Which I think isn't right, especially since we cannot have childeren. Sure we could adopt, but that isn't easy. So if I have to pay all the same stuff that married people do, then I deserve the right to have a Law that gives me the same rights as Married Couples. Do you know that if either one of the person in a relationship should get sick and enter the hospital, that by law they do not have to let the other partner in the room to see him or her. All because we are not related or Married. There are over 200 laws that protect Married couple. We should be allowed the same. Its not up to the masses to decide if its right or wrong. That is an issue between that person and God. If we go around saying its wrong because it says so in the Bible. Then my friends there are far more sinners in this world, than Homosexuals.
