Hey, I'm New =D

Radiant

New member
I only joined for the sole purpose of learning about this whole ordeal. Let me explain. I'm a 14 year old male, who is severely overweight. When I mean severe, I mean 230 pounds at the height of 5'8. This falls into the obesity category.

Many people will say "just eat less", do some workouts, etc. My situation is that I need an hour to get to school, an hour to come back. Coming home from school, deli foods are my only option (chips, water, sandwich, etc.) because I am allergic to fruits. One fateful day, I saw a friend of mine in 6 months and he was slim, attracting the ladies, etc.

I decided enough was enough. If I don't make the decision right now, I will simply keep procrastinating and telling myself "i'll lose weight eventually."

I have a plan in mind though. Dumbells, weights, gym balls, etc. are not an option simply because I live in a small apartment. It doesn't mean I'm poor, I'm in the middle class, just that many misfortunes have befallen us and in return these are the aftermaths. The first thing I want to do is strengthen my abdominals. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the quadriceps (muscles underneath top of leg) of mine are very well built. I'm a very quick runner, and my school has 9 floors. There's 26 stairs between each floor. I'm usually running up 1 floor, then up another 4, down 3, up 4 again, and down a couple more, then up 1, and down 1.

In the typical day, I run 364 stairs. My math may be wrong, it's almost midnight, forgive me. I am not looking for steroids, drugs, foods, etc. All I want is a well built body not for attention but to feel better about myself. I want to be able to walk outside and know that there's nothing big about me, and sitting on one subway seat won't be too much of a problem.

For the past week, I've been doing several excersize, each done 10 times. Then, after a 5 minute break or so, I do it again. I take another 5 minute break and do the third and final set.

The excersizes I do are:

-pushups
-ab crunches
-one where you lie flat, legs up, and feet move in a large circle
-one leg on knee, elbow to that knee (works out obliques)
-ab cycles
-plank on elbows and toes

I count in "one and and two and and three and and"

After 1/3, I feel very tired, out of breath, huffing, and puffing. However, by the last 3/3, I feel tired and all but I can feel abs? I don't know how to describe it, but the stomach area feels harder. However, there are no 6 pack abs. It's not hidden under fat either.

One thing to note is that I can pull only the leg muscles very easily because of my inability to eat fruits. That's no big deal though.

So can anyone comment? Tell me what I'm doing wrong/right? Etc. I want to be in decent, if not great, shape by September.

I need to do excersizes able to be done at home. For example, jogging is not an option. The amount of homework I have only leaves say 40 - 50 minutes free in my day.

Biggest thing to losing weight at your age is your diet. Avoid sodas, candy, chips, and other high fat and sugar shit. Drink 1 gallon of cold water a day, cold water has to be warmed by your body before use so it raises your metabolism. Get a solid diet plan that you know you can stick to and do it. The stair running is awesome cardio so keep that up. Does your school offer a weight training class? If so, enroll in it.

Check out the diet boards on here too, tons of awesome info.

Also, with the abs, spot reducing bodyfat is impossible, and being a male, the fat on your stomach and love handles will be the last bit of fat on your body. Just keep in mind, diet is key to losing weight. You can workout as hard as you want, if your diet sucks it will get you nowhere.

you should notice a huge difference if u just cut out what lee said from your diet. try not to eat fast food candy sodas very often if possible. the thing you have to know is this is a life style change and results may not come quickly but in time they will and when it does you will have to maintain the lifestyle. its might be difficult at first but eventually it will be come your life.

since your just about to join go into hs or are in hs id advise playing a sport JUST for the purpose of getting to use the schools gym and kinda be force to work out. this might be painful to begin with but i think it would be good as well

I get the whole deli part. Here's an idea of what I plan to eat daily:

2 Sun Chips Multigrain Flavored with Onion
1 Bottle of Poland Spring Cold Water
1 Welch's fruit snacks

Is that ok, or is even more dieting needed? I also have Gym Monday and Friday. For 30 minutes we play a team sport, then we play handball for another 30 or if it's raining, we do weight training. I've done weight training for 3 months already, not back to back though.

Our school actually has a large number of teams. Handball is undefeated. However, I'm not really good at any sports. Fencing? Is that a sport?

I also heard somewhere that the more muscle you have, the faster you burn fat.

even if your not good at one id join one. preferable somthing like football baseball basketball where you will be moving alot, but i think any physically active sport will help. dont think of it as being good at a sport if your no good think of it as a source of achieving your desired goals... if they bench you and you never play. who cares your not there to play ball your there to gain access after school to they gym and having someone help motivate you to become better.

and as far as your diet? id make a post in the diet section of the forums and state your question and give your stats like age height weight and progress from there. if thats all you plan on eating your gonna be in alot of pain and it isnt very healthy at all. so make a new post over there.

You are very well spoken - especially for a 14 yo. Keep researching and find out what lean proteins and such will spark your metabolism. You are off to great start with your attitude! :)

Hi and welcome

A couple of things, but diet is that what you plan on eating in a day? What you listed?

If that is it, I would suggest that you do a bit more reading and come up with a different plan, that really isn't healthy and also wouldn't work very well for losing fat either.

If they are snacks, well, ok, but there are far better ones.

Being fit and fabulous your whole life is about establishing healthy diet and exercise habits that you can maintain for life, not yo-yo dieting.

And despite all the stuff you hear in the news now, it is not about steroids and drugs either, not necessary, and in a lot of cases, it is just detrimental to people.

Yes it true about muscle. Fat uses about 1 kcal/h to maintain, muscle uses 4 kcal/h to maintain.
