here we go... one of the most sensitive painful threads that occur around here

I can't stand the thought of euthanasia. If you guys feel that way about your four legged loved ones, how do you feel about your two-legged loved ones? Would you say the same thing, "I couldn't stand to see (insert spouse or family member here) in that state so I put'em down." My dog was with me from the age of 14 till the of age of 28. When I first met him he was a mutt on the street that followed me home one day so I fed him and he never left. In the mornings when I would take the bus to school at 4AM he would follow me to the bus stop, wait with me till I got on the Metro and then he'd go back to the pad. He was a good dog that protected his house and it's inhabitants ferociously till the end (I grew up in a really bad part of town). One day I decided to took him to the vet because he was always coughing and out of breath. The Vet said he had congestive heart disease and it was just a matter of time. He gave me meds to help him out and advised me that it would be too expensive to continue to take care of him and it would only prolong his life a little bit so it would be best if I euthanized him. I figured that the least I could do for him after all those years that he had looked out for my family and myself was to take care of him till the end and let him go when God decided it was his time, not when I thought it was convenient. He lasted about 6 months until one day he started breathing really fast and coughing uncontrollably. We knew it was time so we (my family and I) held him until he lost his ghost. It was really rough to witness that but I would have never been able to live with myself if I had taken him out knowing that he still had life in him.

at the end of the day it's about money for me.
i'm insured, as are my family members...if something happens, good forbid, insurance can pay for extensive treatment.
if my dog gets fucked up, and the bill is 10k, i won't swing that, just too much.
so rather him suffer, i'd have him put down.
