i need help brothers,i am a medical doctor, just finished med school,in nigeria africa.i started bodybuilding two years ago and since then i have gone from weighing 132pounds to weighing 176pounds.until recently exactly 6 weeks i had this vague symtoms elevated body temperature, nausea etc, since malaria is endemic here i treated malaria, but i didnt feel any better. My graduation came and i did that still feeling sick ,even though i treated malaria.after that i noticed my urine turned intense and deep yellow and later my eyes followed.,i went for liver function tests ,full blood count and differentials and also did hep b screening which came out positive.
my lft results was something like this
total bilirubin 11g very high
ast-222
alp-171
alt-2390
total protein-8.9
alb-4.3

my full bld count showed pcv of 38 and white blood cell count of 6million,dont have the results of the others off the top of my head.
its been 3 weeks since then and i have lost a lot of weight i am now at 160pounds.

the jaundice is clearing, but very slowly i still feel tired ,i cant train ,slight body temperature.my question is that can i ever body build again?you know i am advised to take a low protein diet for now and little fats and oils?,all i am having is carbohydrate foods and plenty water?after i get out of this illness, can i still bombard the liver with the high protein diet that goes with body building?i really need help ,cause i hate my body now and i am very depressed..

you're a med dr and don't know the answer to this? Wait until you feel 100%, go get bloodwork again...if all is ok then go for it

i was thinking that also about being a dr. First thing they teach you about diagnosing yourself is to have another doctor diagnose you (you being a doctor). Secondly, why are you asking ? about protein? That's obvious if you are really a doctor you should know that high protein diets put stress on your liver and kidneys.

But, with that being said, drink plenty of water, and get plenty of rest and hopefully you'll be back where you used to be. But, it's not hep c, so u should be back in the game soon.

yes i am a doctor and offcourse i do know that while i am recovering i should stay off protein.the big question i am asking is that when my liver enzymes come back to normal can i start bombarding the liver with protein?i have done a lot of studying and all i have is book knowledge and yes knowledge of assisting in treating some patients.I never treated a bodybuilder which in this case i am aspiring to be..lol!so even though i am a doctor, that doesnt mean i am a total body of knowledge. Not all patients are body builders and bombard thier bodies with high concentration of proteins.sp please i do need help and i am not arrogant to ask..

Same here. What do they teach in med school these days. LOL! You sound like you are on a mood swing from your crash.

Try tyler Liver detox, and cranberry, juice,

and don't get too excited,

sounds like you have something not related to the gear, a touch of malaria and jaundice is pretty nasty and will take time and meds to clear up.

Then go back on your cycle.

Where do you live now? Because if it is in Africa, you need to move to California!

hmmm.. first off,,,,congradulations on your recent life changing experience of becoming a doctor,,as for returning to a bodybuilding lifestyle with hep B,,,slowly incorporate physical activity as liver enzymes/jaundice return to normal and you start to feel better...yes to a low protein diet for now..you will need to be monitored for bloodwork CBC w/diff & hepatic panel,,it will let you know if your condition becomes chronic where pharmacological management may be needed. If you are currently practicing medicine notify your facility of your condition(they probably know something is going on from the color of your sclera and yellow skin)....It is nice to see you are not afraid to ask when you are unsure of something,,keep that in mind when you are orienting to a unit/floor/facility ...never be afraid to ask your preceptor or the one training you a question,,confidence will come in time,,no one comes out of medical education graduating as a MD or nurse an expert...Am i a doctor....No....do i work in healthcare..Yes

you are in for a few months of this,,be smart, do a little reading on the subject..Hep B is not a black and white subject like prescribing IVPB metronidazole after bowel surgery..best of luck

some people here are so full of them selves.thank you solidspine and lanky, mrmuscle for giving some answers.i know about cranberry juice and liver detox.I am in africa ,nigeria to be exact.first of all, this things you mention are difficult to find and when found very expensive!

Well the yellow sclera is clearing up day by day little by little,I am dark skinned ,so the yellow tinge that is commom amonst white people is easily masked in my case. For now i am not working yet,i am looking for place ment to do my one year compulsory housemanship.SO basically i am at home, just resting, sleeping and trying to recuperate.I have lost so much weight ,because i totally have avoided protein as a whole,no meat,no chicken ,fish, milk and a whole host of protein foods.I take only carbohydrates and ,vegetables ,fruits and multivitamin ,then lots of fluid. With all the fluids i take i am nearly always dehydrated.Anyways i am feeling better and i should start lifting weights pretty soon.I am going for the blood test today.lfts and fbc with differentials.I WOULD UPDATE AS THE RESULT COME THROUGH.

AS for the person talking about interferon ,In this case it is not yet needed.Interferon should be used if i turn a chronic carrier of some sort..For now it is conservative treatment ,diet and vitamins.thanks anyways...
