Guys, you have to remember with the sheer number of peeps we have on the board, someone here is bound to have gone through this or know someone who has.

curling just wants to get an idea of what may have to happen. He is not looking for a medical diagnosis. And of course the doctor is going to tell you to come in every single time. That is more $$$ into the network for them.

Personally, there was a girl in junior high that was very prone to seizures. At least once a month. When she had them, her mom picked her up and took her home. No need to go to the hospital every single time. As someone stated before, unless it is an extremely ongoing bout that lasts a very long time.

my mom has had seizures every month for about the last 7-8 years. Most of them are at night at 2-3 in the morning and we dont even know about them until the next day. There is no reason to spend that kind of money for every seizure. A 5 minute ambulance ride can cost around 500 bucks by itself not to mention the hospital bill. I'd say if the seizure seems particularly violent or if it lasts over 30 minutes, than you should prob get help. Other than that, the best thing to do is to turn her head to the side and have something that will prevent her from biting her tongue (wooden stick wrapped in leather was a good suggestion).

alot of people who have seizures regularly dont go get medical attention-in fact most dont even want people calling the squad

remember, you can always call a squad and have them run an assesment on her. shes got the right to deny care/treatment/transport at any time

also if u call 911 u shouldnt be billed. everyone has the right to emergency care and if you cant pay you cant pay

im not sure on the details but they obviously dont get any money out of the bums and homeless that go in

Sorry to hear of your difficulty Curling , hope it turns out ok. I'm not a tremendous fan of the medical profession either - too much ego , not enough science.

Watching a seizure is very scary. I don't know a lot about them, but it is important to keep the person from hurting themselves when it's happening, like violently shaking limbs, and make sure they are able to breathe.

I have some knowledge of this...Seizures can be very serious and left-untreated may occur more frequently and more severe...this could lead to some very bad CNS stuff.

The good news is that if she an epileptic she will only be put on daily anti-seizure medications which will require her blood levels to be tested fairly often...at least initially.

I am sorry to say that you really have no choice in this matter if she is having epileptic seizures since she may have one in very dangerous situations (e.g., driving).

Please go to the docs and worry about the $$$ at a later time. Some pharmaceutical companies will provide free medications if you can show a lack of finances.

Thank all ya'll for your info and suggestions. She is doing find now. And that was a good idea to get her doctors name ahead of time and pager number. I guess I have been so busy at work and with my grandfather dieing it really depressed me. I am also a co-executor of his will which is very stressing. You wouldn't believe what happens to family member when an ugly thing called greed raises its head.

She is anti seizure medicine already but she is doing 300mg a day. They just raised her to 600mg so hopefully that will control them.

Once again thats to all the people that tried to help instead being dickheads and slamming me. You know who the good people are in time of emergency.
