My fiance is having a breakdown...She has weighed 125lbs for ever. She is gaining weight (140) and we do not know what to do. I have entered contests and won them., I know a lot about dieting, but I cannot seem to get the fat to drop off her. She has tried low carb, no carb, high protein, normal 40/40/20 diet with no avail...She can do an hour of runnign a day and eat six good low carb meals, does not work.

She did cut down to 800 cals a day for awhile and lost weight but you cannot live like that....She used to be bulemic (sp) about 12 years ago...she is 25...,
Oh, she is not on birth control...
Please any help would be nice...

Wondered if something else happened that might have caused the weight gain? Stress? She's not pregnant is she? Do you notice anything else changing? (skin, mood, etc.) Also does she lift as well as cardio?

Also diet wise, if she has gone on low carbs for any period of time, if she was bulemic, maybe her body thought it was going into starvation mode and its just trying to protect itself by slowing down metabolism? Does she use ECA or anything? If she's been using it for a while, maybe time to cycle off it?

Has she seen a doctor for the bulemia recently --- maybe it is some reaction to that history of binge/purge?

I guess if its not medical, than I would take a look at what has happened in her/ your lives since she started gaining the weight and consider if it might be affecting her body or her habits.

your girl......

hi.i'm trish. low carb, low fat, hi protien has always worked for me....BUT heres the catch....if you stay low carb for too long...even if your total caloric intake daily isn't super low....your body will not see the restricted carbs as "low" any more. it will get used to them being low...and the fat loss will slow down if not stop. i suggest this...not only for diet purposes, but for sanity purposes also......10 days low c,low,f h p...then one day of carbing up...with good carbs...yams, oats, br.rice, etc. what will happen is...it will"remind" the body of the presence of carbs, which in turn will make the body "notice" dropping them again the next 10 days and so on....see?(not to mention the oump from hell she will get in the gym for a couple of days after carbing up will be awesome!) but the 1 high carb day will not be so much that she will get fat from it. i think i read somewhere that it takes like 3 days for something to convert from the time u eat it..to actual bodyfat(if in fact that IS what it is going to do because of lack of exercise...whatever.

also....if she can do her cardio first thing in the morning...with water alone(so she doesn't dehydrate) and some sort of fat burner(eca rocks ---3 times a day)i think she will begin seeing results. keep the carbs she is eating high in fiber(green leafy stuff)--beware of starches and sugars. and of course HIT THE WEIGHTS WITH UNBRIDLED FURY! the scale is important to a certain degree...but the bodyfat testing machine and most of all the mirror are where she needs to monitor herself most. i mean with the bodyweight thing....(i'm sure you've probably run across my pics here and there...) when i previously looked my best(my hair wasnt bleached then...a little darker)i weighed around 133-136lbs.---in a size 3 shorts....and i'm only like 5'2". i mean...i was far from perfect....but i dont think i was too big and bulky. i say this just to make a point about not worrying about the scale so much. tell her to pm me and she and i can talk about her diet more if she wants....in more detail. well i hope i helped a little...good luck to her!!!!!!!

I agree with the low carb thing...she should be carbing up...i would try like every 3 days having a carb loading day. Just to kind of shock her body. Her body has been through a lot of stuff, so its trying to survive! and 800 calories was a VERY BAD IDEA!!! Talk about slowing down her metabolism! That is the worse thing you can do to your body. Droppin calories WAY to low, leads to major weight gain in the end! Plus it is SO unhealthy and what the hell was she eating????? I would pass out!!! Also is she training heavy??? and with some intensity???? I would also maybe take her to the doc and get her checked out so you can rule out other possible reasons for this.....sometimes when someone has an eating disorder it can really screw up their metabolism and she has been so up and down with her eating habits. Post a sample diet of what she is eating now. Cardio in the AM on an empty stomach is good as well. Also try some HIIT training in there as well. Mix up her workout routines and her cardio sessions. Make sure she is drinking tons of water tooo.

How tall is she. I'm sure it doesn't look as bad as you think. Please don't tell me that you're going to leave her because she's gain a little weight? Instead praise her on her new look. Make her feel comfortable with the situation. Have her decide to see a nutritionist of a doctor for help and don't suggest it. That will only make her feel that you don't like the way she looks. If it's true love, it wouldn't matter, would it?

The low carb/ calorie diets shouldn't be part of the equation. The body needs at least 50g of carbs for normal brain function alone. Less than that and you're going to literally lose your mind. Not go crazy, but the incapability of thinking the way you usually do.

low carb, etc.

i agree with [email protected] should never go into a caloric defecit such as 800 cal/day! even if the ratio of carbs, fat, and protien are correct...it will not matter...her body will go into shock..think she's starving to death , hold on to every ounce of fat she has, and burn off muscle...which are "little fat furnaces" in themselves...in other words...muscles are very metabolically active...not to mention sexy! also...when carbs or total calories stay too low for extended peroids of time, t-3 output will start to lessen.....not cool either--at all.

I have read several times that going below 1200 calories is dangerous especially for a female. Gaining weight can be a sign of something serious, Id consult a DR he may have a program for her. As far as dropping pounds, well some of my "tricks" that have helped a heart rate monitor, to make sure that im burning fat! If you need a good website or advice on those let me know I searched for a long time to find a good price! Another thing I do is drink 1 bottle of water right before I eat and 1 during the meal, I also take all my vitamins with huge gulps of water while I eat between bites and this gets me pretty full, pretty fast...also vitamins make me sick to my stomach so it helps. hmmm what else, I'll keep thinking! Oh and working out first thing in the morning was recommened, Ive read this in several reputable fitness mags with a cup of coffee, the caffeine is suppossed to heat your body up to burn fat! PS her metabolism could be screwed up because of her past disorder, if you can see a doc!

.....

YEAH, I AGREE TOO.....BECAUSE OF THE PAST DISORDER..ETC...GET A BLOOD PROFILE DONE TO CHECK THYROID, ETC....A GOOD PLACE TO START TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS OK TO BEGIN WITH....

Still haven't answered how tall she is. It's great that she weighed 125 for ever 'til now, but is there really anything wrong with 140? How long did it take to get to that. It couldn't have happened over night. Is the gain all fat? Details man, details. Perhaps her body is still maturing. I know this fella that didn't complete puberty until 21 and boy was there a BIG difference <he he>.

Maybe 140 is her body's comfy weight.

As for her not being on birth control, I hope you're using a JimmyCap. Weight gain is a sign of pregnancy, you know

If losing the poundage is really important to HER, then investigate the causes. Unfortunately, there are many different possibilities for the increase. Investigate every one of them. Retrace your steps and visit a doctor.

good luck

We have a desired weight that most of us can't achieve, an ideal weight that never changes regardless of physiology, and a realistic weight that we'll never be happy with. That's life.......... deal with it.
