Help me decide ... do the meet or wait till June.

There is a meet on May 7th. I want to enter it. But I only have a week to get ready. The RageX needs too much weight to touch. The Karins is my best bet here. But I have 0 time in it. With some practice I can get 495 to touch and lock it out.

1. So if I'm going to do this I will stop training on 4/30 the lastest. Then rest a week. I work crazy night shifts so the more rest the better.
2. So that leaves me M-W-F/S to trian.
3. I have no idea what my shirt max is.
4. I need lots of shirt work to learn the shirt.
5. I need to do a back day.
6. Figure out the most effective exercises I need to do this week.

I was thinking Monday do back. This gives me a few days rest from benching. Then do bench Wed and Friday or Saturday. Friday or Saturday I would look for an opener that I can do 3 reps for in the gym and touch.
I have no idea what my max is.

All I did before were raw meets. This would be my 1st equipped meet.

I don't want to rush into anything and get hurt.

I have a meet coming up in June that I am training for. I'm not sure what to do.

personally i'd wait till june when you have had more time to practice with your shirt

i agree, i ran into the same problem last month, it was taking more weight to touch in the rage than i was comfortable attempting at a meet. so i used my karins. i had a decent meet but was putting up way bigger numbers in the gym, i just could not get it to touch everytime in the rage. i ended up only getting my opener in the denim, and came home the next week and was hitting 50 more pounds in the rage, and now i don't have issues touching anymore in the rage, and am hitting 100 lbs over what i did at the meet a month ago. i shoulda waited too.

I'm going to wait. I surprized myself and now that I know the potential is there I'm going full blast.

I need to tuck my elbows and I can get something to touch.
I'll work with the Karins until my new ragex comes in. I ordered one size bigger, a 54. It should be here in about 2 week maybe longer. I ordered it with the neck scooped and the sleeves trimmed.

I'm not familiar with rules, I guess the sleeves can not go past the elbows.

no, not in any fed, you can push them up, but i get mine cut off too, they are about 2" too long for me.

Uhoh well im screwed lol. My ragex single should be in in 4 days. most ive ever hit on a 5 board is 405 for 3 (2 assisted) so basically i cant lockout weight thats heavy enough to touch. crap

parabellum what meet in june are you getting set for?

not unless it is really loose. i doubt you will get 400 to touch in one that is one size too big, unless you are really good at touching weight in a shirt, use it every week, start with what you can triple off 5 boards, when that gets easy add 20 lbs and drop a board, contiue this until you get a weight to touch, by then you can lock it out. use lockouts, and raw board presses for your assistance work and hammer the back and trap work too, you need your stabilizer muscles very strong, cause you will be using weight that is 100 lbs or so over your raw max.

Para...make sure when you are doing that you get a spotter to be behind you. 1, it helps with safety....2, it is hard to pinch your shoulders together and keep them pinched when you unrack the bar by yourself. It is also better to have somebody there to let you know if the bar has actually touched.

Have you experimented with different setups? It seems when you couldn't get the 495 up your legs instinctivly came forward to get leg drive. It doesn't seem like you are getting as much drive as you potentially could. I would suggest either trying to bench with your feet out like WSB or keep your feet underneath you but spread them a little wider. When you do the latter, try and push down with the heel. You probably won't be able to set your heel down as most can't, but it will offer a little more leg drive.

You have a lot of potential there. You arms seem perfectly suited to benching. I can see an easy 500 in the near future.

I love the look of the guys when you are putting 4 plates + on the bar. I live for looks like that.

I need to find a training partner. No one is into what I do and I go to the gym at differnet hours due to work.

I usually keep my feet tucked behind me and try to put my heal on the floor, the same as you describe. ButI try to hug the bench with my thighs. I'll try it wider. I freaked out and moved my feet. Idid not have any energy left.

Thanks, this weekend hopefully.
