Help me choose a career.........karma for good help

To own a supplement store all you need to know is nutrition/diet/training/steroids...basically all the things you get by reading this board all day. :D The customers will come if you know how to help them out (it helps if you are real personable). The hardest part is getting the capital up front to start it. But if you are really into it, it can be a very cool endeavor.

If you are interested in human body related studies, perhaps kineisiology or sports medicine would be suited to you?

you need to take some business courses, i'm not saying a university degree, but you need to know some basic things about the way a business is run, the economy, etc.kineisiology is definately a good choice, however, another 4 - 6 years in college.
biology, anatomy, sports medicine, nitrition, are other good options, or if your credit is outstanding, and you have proper collateral and you think you know what your doing just getr the bank to loan you a whack of money now.

Get a buisness degree, you can do many things with it. Only a few things with the fitness stuff. Then open a strip club. Then buy your favorite gym for fun.

Having an understanding of bodybuilding will not make you a successful gym owner. It's all about business. You are most likely not going to make money with a hardcore gym.

Most of the hardcore gyms I know are run by AS dealers not legit business men.

Why not become a source? You can make decent money, save it up, open a hardcore gym, start selling gear out of your gym, meet a coked up stripper, become 280 at 9% and do nothing but train, eat and sleep.

Then your stripper girlfriend will turn you in and run away with your 3 year old girl. Then you can spend a few years in jail come out at 180 lbs and work for 5 bucks an hour for the rest of your life.

If your lucky, they will make an ABC tuesday night movie about your life. lol :) :) :)

Hey I loved the story up until the coked up stripper!

By owning a gym you really won't make too much money. If your looking to make alot of money get into something else like flipping houses or something.

This is actually true. I've seen so many gyms open and close just in the 15 years I've been working out.

My career advice would be to do some research on what jobs/careers are most in demand in your geographical area and then pick one that you think you would like to do. Obviously most of us would like to own a gym because in our world we could workout whenever we want. Believe me, it's a lot less expensive and less painful to just pay your gym dues.

My friend is actually doing the same thing.
I'll give u an example of what he is doing, as it is a most logical step.
He is majoring in Kineseology through the arts, and also majoring in Administrative Studies.

Now, you might not want to have a double major; as it might be too time consuming. So instead, major in kin and do a minor in business admin. Only take a certain amount of courses to fulfill your minor degree and you will be well on your way.

Honestly, the reason I say this instead of just majoring in one-or-the-other, is that to be successfull in an entrepreneurial venture, you must 1). have a knowledge of the goods/services you are providing 2). you must have a good business sense.

So, think it over.

A.D.

I agree with needing a good business sense but you don't necessarily need a degree for that. As far as the fitness field goes you could either go for Kinesiology or Exercise Physiology. Both great for the fitness field and would get you a job almost anywhere. To get ACSM certified or a strength and conditioning certification from the NSCA you need either one of these degrees.

On the nutrition side you could study dietetics and become a registered dietician or study nutrition and food science.
