Hello From Airborne School

The Ranger said:
Hey Fro....Go with the chopper pilot, and if ya qualify, transfer to Task Force 160, based in Ft. Campbell Kentucky.....If and when you decide to get out, more job options will be available to you...Plus you get to work with all the " Good Guys " ...<wink>.

Ranger - I would love to be a chopper pilot but there's not a really good chance as an officer. Most of those slots go to Warrant Officers. But I wanted to get the full commissioning so there ya go.

I will be working my ass off in OCS though since I understand that at least part of the selection process is class ranking. The better you do the better choices you have.

But like I said, if I can't get helicopter pilot, I want a job that allows me to go to Ranger School.

Remember Fro....Ranger school is just a tab, that scroll is a way of life....

WO or 2nd lt.s....call the WO Mr. or sir, and the 2nd lt. sir....not much difference in fact Fro.....

Don't get tunnel vision on MI or Ranger school, there is time for schools, go for the birds...you're treated much better..

Also Tx, keep your eyes open on your first jump...harder to do than it sounds, don't hot dog it, watch out for other jumpers, and keep a good eye on the ground. It comes up a helluva lot quicker than you think, do a good riser slip, feet and knees together, relax, and roll with the impact...

Hot days with high humidity and a three MPG breeze, you land like a feather...cold days, no humidity, and no breeze...you hit hard as hell

When you jump the MC1-1, don't try and be a sky-god, go with the flow, turn into the wind and enjoy the ride...

Be safe, pay attention.....the hardest thing about airborne school is quite simply....The Jump....nothing else matters

You will do well, and I wish you the best of luck.....should you graduate Ranger School, e-mail me the date, and I will try and attend....Graduation is pretty cool....

Roger that Ranger....Monday I start School...That was a pretty cool list...I'm excited about everything I'm about to start doing. while some of my classmates are a bit scared about the jumps...I must be partly crazy or just a secret adrenlin junkie.

I'll take a pair of wings over a pair of legs anyday.

Ranger did you happen to know a James Cockrum? He spent some time down in Panama with the 7th group...

Remember on the way down if somebody asks if they can borrow your chute, you tell them, "no way." save the nice guy stuff for a later time. :D

It doesn't ring a bell right off hand, ask him if he knew Manny Pardal, he was there for quite awhile....he and I came up together...damn good guy as well....And don't worry, I was the same way in Airborne School.....it gets alot different when they open the doors and say..." Drop zone coming up, stand in the door".......That's when the adrenlin really begins to flow....heh heh heh.....Don't forget a small instant camara(disposable), use 550 cord and tie it around your neck then tuck it down your shirt...a picture is worth a thousand words at times....heh heh heh...I have quite a few pics from different altitudes....<wink>

My favorite passage from Henry V

Whoever does not have the stomach for this fight, let him depart. Give him money to speed his departure since we wish not to die in that man's company. Whoever lives past today and comes home safely will rouse himself on this day every year and show his neighbor his scars, and tell embellished stories of all their great feats of battle. These stories will teach his son and from this day, until the end of the world, we shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers: for whoever has shed his blood with me shall be my brother. And those men afraid to go will think themselves lesser men as they hear of how we fought and died together.

I wish you luck and safe landings, where ever they may be my friend.............

Man, if that doesn't get you......
