mattdan: You've got a PM, bro.
HCG as HRT/TRT is a common protocol used by one of the long time pioneers of Men's Health, Dr Eugene Shippen. You can read about this protocol and whether or not you're a good candidate for it by reading his book "The Testosterone Syndrome".
It basically works like this:
1. You draw a baseline value for a Test and associated hormones
2. You take a big dose of Clomid for 7-10 days. This big dose causes a massive rise in LH, the signal to your balls to make Test.
3. If your LH goes up and your Test also goes up, you have secondary hypogonadism and you're a good candidate for HCG. To your body, HCG looks like LH.
4. If your LH goes up and your Test does NOT go up, you have primary hypogonadism and are not a good candidate for HCG since your balls to do not respond to LH. You will need Testosterone injections.
