Have you known anyone that has committed suicide?

A guy that I know at the healthclub told me tonight that one of our mutual acquaintance's 21 year old son committed suicide and that there were no signs. Didn't even leave a note. The man was tearing up as he was telling me about it. Everything in the kid's life seemed normal. He showed no signs of depression or trouble.

Do you know why? Sorry if you don't want to discuss.

Why?

The dude that I knew had a lawsuit going on against a chemical plant...claimed he was gonna cash in on 4 mil. Killed himself in his girlfriends house...she found him all black and blue. Turns out he lied about the whole thing and was on all kinds of anti depressant meds.

No reason to do what he did though. One good thing is that I kicked his ass once when he was still alive.

A family friend slit her own throat. A mother with 3 little kids. Her husband found her.

I tried in 2000. Got to spend some time in the hospital.

It's incredibly selfish but someones people get so lost that they completely give up.

Yes, my high school friend Darren. He was always an odd ball, when he left school he spent a bit of time in various instituations until he was supposedly cured and released. I'd see him jogging in the dead winter (-5c) in a vest and pair of shorts, the last conversation I had with him he told me how he'd found Jesus and he looked much happier, "Jesus loves you," was his parting shot. I read in the local newspapers a couple of weeks later that he and his girlfriend had made a suicide pact and swallowed a huge cocktail of drugs. His girlfriend survived but unfortunately Darren didn't. Very sad.

Wow. I'm sorry. That would take a lot of guts to slit your own throat. I guess when people get to that point, they have no fear.

Several people.

me too. Only have known a few personally. Most were people I went to highschool with and knew but not intimately. My 38 year old cousin sat down in front of a tree on his land and shot himself in the chest. His wife was leaving him. They had a young daughter. Sad. My Family's best friends (Another family that we went on a lot of vacations with). Their 29 year old son that I knew very well, hung himself out in their barn. His dad found him. I had bad nightmares the night I found out.

I can't believe I'm going to share this here...but I'm going to take a chance and trust that this will remain respectful and mature.

Please don't disappoint me.

I lost a very dear friend roughly 10 years ago to suicide. We met through a mutual acquaintence in high school, and the 3 of us wound up forming a garage band shortly thereafter. I played lead guitar, and Todd (deceased) would switch off with Mitch (our mutual friend) between rythm guitar and drums, depending on who knew what parts and could play them better lol.

Funny thing...I'd only been playing guitar a few years at the time, and Todd absolutely idolized me...never stopped complimenting me on my playing abilities. Within 2 years he proved to be a mind-boggling guitar virtuoso. I considered myself to be a *decent* guitarist, and I was embarrased to play around him...he was that good!

Years later he wound up in Florida in a band with some other classmates of ours, and was on the verge of making it big. He'd managed to catch the attention of some pretty powerful people in the music industry at the time, and they were trying to help him meet the right people.

Then, for no apparent reason, he stopped returning my phone calls. I didn't hear from him for quite some time. I found out through another mutual friend that he'd taken an overdose of Darvocet one night shortly after I'd talked to him last.

Todd was a very mixed-up individual, but had a heart of pure gold. It absolutely devastated me to learn of his passing. Had he simply confided in me that something was wrong, I'd have done anything in my power to help him out. He never told me.

I'll never forget our last conversation either. He said "E., out of all the friends I've ever had, you're the only one who's never shit on me, and the only one I feel truly believed in me."

From one extreme to another. I'll never be able to make sense of it.

There is one very bizzarre twist to this story though. Through a completely unforseeable series of events that started around Todd's passing, I wound up making my peace with Christ.

Proof that God can achieve something amazing though something so tragic.

This is something deeply personal to me, and I'm taking a HUGE risk posting that here. Please, don't start in with the Christ-bashing. If you don't believe, please, at least try to have a little respect for someone who does.

being messed up enough to kill yourself is an internal conflict, no matter what ur like on the outside if ur messed up on the inside, thats when ur at risk...

some people with the "shittiest lives" are the happest inside, and some with "amazing lives" are suicidal and conflicted

i know some people who have tried to kill themselves but noone who was successful

Very sorry to hear that brother. Except for the part about God.

A friend of mine in high school hung himself from the raftors in his attic. My girlfriend at the time was really close to him and saw that he looked very depressed earlier in the day so she told him that he should call her later that night. Well he had called but was on the phone with me at the time and chose not to end our conversation to talk to him. He killed himself shortly after and my girlfriend never forgave herself; wow, typing that really dredged up some memories.

RIP Duane :cornholio

I have known a few people who have committed suicide. The one that always sticks with me is a friend I had my freshman year in college. This kid had everything going for him...extremly smart, drop dead gorgeous, star athlete, tons of friends... Anyway, One day he was missing. No one knew where he went, who he was with, or what happened. He was declared a missing person and there was a citywide search for him. He was found about 2 weeks later, he had jumped off of a cliff in the city, with a suicide note pinned to himself.

Some things are very hard to understand. It is so sad to think that a person doesn't believe they have a reason to live.

a classmate drove her car off a boat ramp and into the river and drowned herself about 3 yrs ago. this weekend is our 10 yr reunion

another classmate shot himself in the head about a year and a half ago

weird thing is i saw both of them at the bar the weekend before they did it

Wow this thread is weird and depressing and Im starting to get cold chills... :worried:

The clown frowns today for all of you who have lost loved ones...

Co worker's girlfriend was jerking him around, so he blew his head off on her sofa, in 1999.

A friend of a friend had wanted to become a pilot uninterruptedly from age 4 to age 19

When he applied to flying school he got rejected.

He told everyone he wasnt worried at all because he´d though of a great solution to the problem. He said this with such elation and sincerity that nobody thought anything dark behind it. He said in two weeks I´ll have this settled.

He put all his stuff in boxes, made an inventory of who could have what, left a note to his family and friends saying he loved them, nicked a gun from the shooting range and shot himself through his head with the pistol in his mouth. There was a printoff of a little anatomy chart showing where to aim for the respiratory centre of the small brain on the table.

The day before he had gone for drinks with his friends like an ordinary night and acted ordinarily.

My brother in law hung himself out in the woods and they didn't find him for 8 months.

i knoew a few guys in the navy that killed themselves. one guy was a good friend of mine. he was busted down in rank for something stupid but he couldnt handle it so he hung himself. another guy was the career councelor and he knew his brother was comming over to visit. so he went into his garage and hung himself and when his brother came and opened the garage door he saw him just dangling there. it sucks. oh and a girl i knew and grew up with took her dads shotgun and stuck it in her mouth and pulled the trigger. they have no idea why she killed herself. i knew her for many years. i could go on forever about the people i know that killed themselves. i just wish i could have been there to help before it happened no matter who it was.

my dads best mate hung himself last year.he had wife 2 kids. nice house, nice car, nice job. he hung himself in a kitchen rafter, for all his family to see. no1 knows why he did it ? and my bosses brother done the same from a rafter in his attic at the begining of the year, work problems , he also owned a joiners company, and he was getting in alot of problems .

I know a man who is very career orientated, an accountant and a hunting officer- he overlooks the hunting in a large foresty area. He loves both his jobs and they make him good money. However neither allows him to continue working with a criminal record. He got acquitted of 6 charges, including illegal arms possession and carriage, hindering arrest, insulting an officer and drunk driving. All alleged facts took place in the same hour.

His lawyer was a friend of mine thats how I met him. They´re good buddies now obviously.

What we need is love to help love grow today..today

A good friend's husband killed himself about 7 years ago. They were seperated and he was having a "thing" with the wife of a friend of theirs. She got prego and he just couldnt handle the guilt I guess. There were alot of drugs involved also but I still feel guilty cause I saw him a couple days before and I knew he was very sad and confused but I didnt try to help him. It really never occured to me that he would take his own life and leave behind his two boys, unborn child and family and friends. hind sight is 20/20. He shot himself in his car outside "the other woman's" house.

A guy in the school next to mine hung himself with his belt from the toilet doorpost in school. Simply found by the next kid coming into the toilet, dangling there over a soiled restroom in a shitty public school.

A girl from my HS class who was a depressed paranoid insecure autist and also had some health problems died of a "brain infarct/ stroke" in her sleep. She was on meds though and had just moved out to university where she hoped to get a social life but failed at it. I think the chance is great that she OD´ed. She was unattractive. I was in class with her for 6 years up to last year and cant remember her name right now. should tell you something

An 85 year old retired crossong guard did. He used to walk me across the street when I was a kid. Still cant believe. He just found out that he had terminal cancer. A fucking shame. He was a good old man.

my mom tried three years ago, I was the last person she tried calling before she passed out( sleeping pills) I heard the phone and decided not to get up and answer it, 1 hour later a knock on the door, she was in hospital, and she is now doing great. she found god and loves life once more..

cliche comment- how come suicide attempters dont know their shit? its practically impossible to OD on anything OTC these days.you´d have to know a good cocktail or something...

lots of people slit their wrists and live too. even if you do it properly you can survive and most people dont have the balls to cut all the way to the main arteries and get like superficial baby bleedings there and cry on the floor like the pathetic little things they are.

Well maybe im hard or inhumane but ive learnt the hard way you cant keep taking everybody who says they hate life serious because a lot of the time thats a role they choose and they want that attention. I don´t respect someone who one minute to the next decides upon some sloppy suicide attempt which they just HAVE to know will most likely fail.

It´s complete blackmail and attention whoring and while they are probably indeed unhappy and troubled, any help and sympathy you give them in such a situation feeds this behaviour, it makes the behaviour a success. Some of these bleeding hearts "attempt" 12 times. Get out of here! Try and get attention by accomplishments or a pleasant personality or originality like the rest of us.

Killing yourself is a piece of cake. Anywhere and especially in the USA where lots of households have firearms. Get in the garage, close the garage door, turn the car key, you´re out of here PAINLESS in under ten minutes. At least just admit you decided to hurt yourself because you felt people didn´t think you pathetic enough.

I just wonder who they´re still breathing for? They obviously hate themselves and have no selfrespect and they´re only hurting those around them. Do you know how much time the ER in hospital wastes on these people?

I´d probably print somebody like this a detailed fool-proof not failing step plan to suicide and guess what, they´ll never have the balls. Or they´d have done it already. I respect the people who actually did it.

Not very surprising and you can see that pattern even in direct surroundings.

It´s just the even more pathetic version of starting to cry because nobody is listening to you

Sometimes suicide attempts are merely that, cries for attention. Sometimes they are not. Generally speaking, a person who commits suicide has made 20-30 previous attempts. Pity you can't tell which is which.

Y'all know I'd chime in on this thread. :)

i had two friends hang themselves in the same month the same way. in their garage with an extension cord. they each had two young children all under the age of 4. i also had someone closely related od she did it when i was three. there isn't a day where i wish i could just see or talk to her for even one minute. it has left an empty void in my life that can never be filled. :worried:

That interesting you mention weakness. I'm not going to argue that physically females are inherently weaker, but in the case of suicide you have to ask your who is really weaker? The one stayed alive or the one who decided that no matter what it wasn't worth going on? I guess it depends on how you look at it.

That doesn't even make sense. Read up on it. It takes guts to kill yourself, most can't go through with it even though they may want to die, so they half ass do it. Men usually use a gun and do it the right way, ensuring that they will not fail. Men are the stronger sex mentally and physically as a general rule.

My friend Adam did the running car in the garage thing earlier this year. His room mate blames himself cause he did it at the time the roomy was supposed to be home. He ended up working late and came home to find Adam dead.

There was a guy in my homeroom that I had been in school with since 4th grade. He was on the varsity soccer team, the whole school knew him, everyone loved him. I always had minor conflicts with him. I'd be talking to friends, we'd all be in the same conversation, all agreeing, but he'd try to single me out of the conversation saying that I was wrong for my opinion. I always fired back while everyone else shut up. For some reason they were scared to voice their opinion to him but I wasn't, and his attempts to single me out never got him what he wanted, which was to put me down. I didn't really care for him.

We had a "formal dance" in 9th grade, mostly because we were leaving that school and going onto the high school. The day of the dance, he didn't show up to school. It was kind of odd because he was always there. By 3rd period, they called his sister to the office over the intercom. After 3rd period was over, a bunch of people saw her hysterically crying and her mother was taking her out of the building, also in tears. A few people overheard their conversation on the way out and it spread like wildfire that her brother was dead.

At the end of the day, they took everyone in 9th grade and put us into the auditorium. They got on the PA and told the entire school that he had passed away that morning, but didn't say how. Everyone was in shock.

A bunch of us went to a friend's house that night to chill out. We were discussing it when the phone rang. There was a group of people out for a track meet that day and when they returned to the school, the principal was there to tell them that this guy was killed by a gunshot. One of them called us to tell us, and then she told us how he died.

When I found out how he died, I still felt sorry for the family, but not for him. However insensitive it sounds, I pretty much said "oh well, he's gone, didn't know him that well and don't care." I still feel that way 14 years later. Why he did it I don't know and don't care.

Another one...I didn't know the guy very well, but I knew his fraternal twin quite well.

We live in Pa, and the twin had moved to Arizona to live with their mother. They were both very heavy into drugs. One day, he started giving away a lot of his things for no reason. No one thought anything about it, even though it was odd, but the crowd he was hanging out with didn't think much was up.

He went out onto a mountain in Arizona in winter, not really wearing much. They found him a few months later. Coyotes had gotten to the body as well. It took a while to identify him.

The twin that I was friends with, he was devistated. He went out to Arizona immediately and spent time with his mother and also got to know some of his brother's friends out there, which is how he knew that his brother gave a lot of his stuff away before he went out on that mountain.

The twin came back to PA and was hanging out with a bunch of friends a few days after the funeral. He drank an entire 5th of Vodka, I have no clue what else he was on, and then he attempted suicide the right way...down the road, from elbow to wrist, DEEP, and both arms. 3 people grabbed him, threw him in the car, and rushed to the hospital. They had to staple his arms shut. He spent some time in the psych ward, and when he came out he was on Lithium. He was a fucking mess.

It took him a few months to start getting back to normal. 2 months after his suicide attempt, he had come back to PA and we were hanging out with him. He would occasionally get really emotional and we'd just listen to him, which is all he needed. Then he'd say "ok, enough acting like a pussy. Let's get drunk." He'd wipe the tears away and he'd be ok.

I lost contact with him for almost 2 years. Ran into him one day and he was doing great. He said he hadn't tried to kill himself again after the vodka and arm slashing incident. He had fully come to terms with what happened and accepted it. Havn't seen him since.
