Have question about blood test. Is my Testosterone level low???

ohioone

New member
Does anyone else think this is low? My serum testosterone is 3.48 (the "normal" range is 2.41-8.27). This seems very low to me. Would this be low enough is warrant HRT? Thanks for any input. (Karma to all who respond)

What units are those? I only know that 300-900 is normal for total testosterone when the units are ng/mL.

Testosterone Levels

It sounds like they measured your testosterone levels in picograms, most are used to nanograms for standard measurement of your test levels. Your levels are low enough to justify HRT. I am new to your board but I am not new to HRT. I am CEO and Founder of Vitality Rejuvenation Clinic and can help you get on an HRT program if you would like. I am not a source for steroids so please do not ask. Contact me if I can help.

I worry about prostate cancer due to two problems with HRT. Higher Testosterone levels and thus conversion to DHT and The fact that you are replacing with a synthetic.

Do you have any stats on male HRT and prostate problems/cancer?

Low T can cause prostate problems too. Old men have low T . Old men are most prone to BPH.

In the AIDS field that would be called 'Low Normal' and if you check out a study posted on www.medibolics.com you will see that you can probally get a doc to give you something like Androgel or Testem. It would be harder to justify injectiable Test, but you can give it a try. You just might have a progressive doctor.

Bro, the first question you should ask yourself is: are you having symptoms of low test? If the answer to that is yes, then discuss the results with your doctor & do more research on this board. The numbers look low enough that you could get on HRT if you wanted to.

The brothers on this board have given you good advise, it is nice to have friends like this. What I would like to do for you is run a full blood test on you to check your:

Lipid Panel
Complete Metabolic Panel
CBC
Prolactin
Free & Total Testosterone
Testosterone Free and Weakly Bound
LH
FSH
PSA

I am a doctor and although HRT is not my speacialty I have an excellent HRT specialist on staff that directs all of our HRT programs. It may be a case where you need your estrogen controlled. One of your brothers also made a good point that low testosterone can pose a problem to your prostate health. Another thing to consider is that although "Normal Range" is anywhere from 300-1000 Ng/Dl every man is different. One guy may be happy and healthy at 350Ng/Dl and another guy may have all of the symptoms of hypogonadism at 500Ng/Dl. I can probably arrange for a blood test close to your home and your health insurance will most likely cover the cost. I would be happy to take a look at those results for you and give you advise so that you can make an educated decision as to what to do next.

Thanks guys for all the input. My lab test was for SERUM TESTOSTERONE and the units reported are ng/mL. (3.48 ng/mL on a scale of 2.41ng/mL-8.27 ng/mL). Thanks again to Vital (I will be contacting you soon.) To STILLGOING or VITAL: What are the symptoms of low TEST?

Using this calculator, it says that 3.48 picograms = .00348 nanograms. Would this mean that his T levels are 348 in the 300-900 scale we are used to?

Bump. Nobody has answered my question :(
Am I converting his blood levels properly? Asked my doc to fax my report from many months ago so I can convert mine.

Vital, I wish you were in Canada bro. It is soooo much harder finding a sympathetic doc here....

"Normal" blood levels can vary from lab to lab (except for glucose and cholesterol as these tend to be standard in the USA). But even some glucose testing like the GTT is open to huge amounts of variation in what is "normal".

Not too many years back the normal ranges for testosterone, nationwide where about 50% higher.

Some tests are really averages. The lab averages the blood they get, throw out 2 standard deviations, and poof - a new normal range. many labs will vary one test or another from one year to the next. A problem with this method is most people getting blood tests done are sick - so what are we really averaging?I am not sure how labs determine the reference range ("normals") for testosterone - I use to know that but have forgotten - but since we know sperm counts and testosterone levels are dropping by and large worldwide I am not sure being average is good.

About 10 years ago, your level would have definately been low at most labs.

Bro - I've never heard this before. Please tell me more about this.

Hello Vital,
I have been interested in HGH and have done a bit of research on it. I've seen my doctor and my blood test came back with a 347. I have all the classic symptoms of low T, no energy, low libido, when I ejaculate at the most a couple of drops, losing muscle mass, I'm stuck at 225lbs and haven't been able to lower my weight in the past year, etc. I just really started noticing the symptoms around a year ago and started researching the possible issue. That led me to see my doc and since the blood test, my doc just started me on 200 mg/mL of Testosterone Cypionate. I am very interested in getting on HGH and I'm wondering what the advantage of that vs. Testosterone Cypionate or are you able to do them both? Is there a reliable source you would recommend to do research or should I just get a hold of you? I've read a lot of things but there a lot of conflicting stories and it's getting pretty convoluted. I just want to be able to have a happy, healthy active life like. Any help or recommendations would be highly appreciated.

You can also contact me directly at [email protected]

Thank you.
