Exactly how does the ps3 behave more like a PC?
Me thinks Sony needed to buy off somebody to make that statement. Look I'm not going to debate graphics on the two cause in the end, the PS3 will probably eek out a win there. But to say it works more like a PC than the 360? Ummmm, right. I'm not a computer engineer but I remember reading what alot of developers had to say about how the Ps3 uses it's memory...didn't sound like a PC and the developers said as much. It was a pain in the ass to develop for and still is. And it's "meant" to be that way. Sony wants there to be such a steep learning curve for their hardware that it takes up all your fucking resources as a developer....nothing to spare for other platforms. Microsoft uses this same strategy with it's software which is why companies are reluctant to switch to anything else cause they've invested so much money in training their employees on microsoft software like excel and access.
You realize the main point of that E3 appearance was because Valve is putting Steam on PS3, no? That's why he made the comment about Portal 2 being "the best version of any console". Why would they put it on PS3 and not 360?
It wasn't about hardware architecture, but rather about what kind of services and features each system is capable of, as the 360 doesn't have things like-
-Standard HDD (MS can thank the Arcade SKU for that, and I bet they're kicking themselves now).
-User upgradeable HDD of any size, brand etc. as long as it's a 2.5" drive. Whereas MS uses the
still overpriced proprietary kind.
-No file size limit on downloads. There are game demos on PS3 larger than what 360 can allow for full games.
Don't quote me on those as being "the" reasons, but I figure they had something to do with the PC-like advantages Gabe thought of before striking this deal. Of course, it's not like a PS3 love bug bit Gabe in the ass one day and made him do a 180. There was as much an effort on Sony's part to convince him they've changed their ways enough to give proper support they might not have had years ago.
There was an article about this after E3 that maybe explains it better than I did-
