Ok, Im getting towards the end of my bulk, I have around 2 months left. I was thinking afterwards when I cut I was gonna get some casein to help preserve some muscle seen as my calories will be cut. However, I was wondering what the one best most basic and important supplement I could take just to give me a last little boost is to help add as much size and strength as I can before I cut.

My stats:
14 years old
175lbs
5 foot 6
Around 18% bf

I already take:
Multivitamin
Whey
Fish Oil
Glucosamine
Caffeine
Green Tea Extract

I think most people will say BCAA....


Oh and btw it needs to be not super expensive.

Could you explain you "cutting" diet to me? This will greatly influence my recommendation :biggrin:
 
Congratulations for your dedication!!!! Keep up your good work!! Post every information about your diet so the good bros here can help you. I wish more Americans were interested like you in healthy lifestyle and bodybuilding. Stay away from any supplement that can have en hormonal effect on you. You are too young, and believe me, your body naturally will give you incredible results. Once you are in your late 20's you'll realize that. I wish I could go back to your age and know what I'm telling you now.

Post your training routine, diet. That's the most important for muscle gain.

Other than a good WHEY protein, which is a must, the 2 best supplements Ive see have been CREATINE, and BETA ALANINE.
 
Well before xmas I used to have my diet pretty nailed, an average day went somthing like this, (although my carbs may have been a little low):

Upon Waking: 30g whey, 30g fast carbs
Breakfast: 4 scrambled eggs, 3 slices toast, 30g whey
11.15 (brake time at school): cereal bars, home made protein bar, fruit juice, bacon cob or somthing like that bought from school
12.25: 4-5oz chicken with cous-cous (sp?) juice drinks, somthnig bought from school if I was still hungry
4.00: 6-8oz steak with fat cut off, and peppers
6.00: whatever mum has cooked for tea
Before Bed: 1 pint milk, 30g whey

But now, I admit Iv got pretty lazy, it got worse and worse over xmas, now I eat when Im hungry, I never go hungry for long, I eat a big breakfast and I make sure to pay attention to pre and post workout nutrition, I always go into a workout fuelled then re-fuel afterwards, I always eat alot before bed. Im still having good gains like this and it might be because of my age but I am actually getting stretch marks on my arms and legs which look to have gotten alot thicker, especially legs.


Oh and as for training routine. Last week I started a new routine. Heres what Im doing now.

Monday -
Hang Clean with PushPress 3x5
Wide Stance Squat: 3x5
Pendlay Row: 3x8
Assisted Pullup/Pulldown: 3x8
Lateral Raise: 3x8
Barbell Curl: 3x3-5 + 5 cheat reps

Wednesday -
Rack Deadlift: 2x5
Romanian Deadlift: 3x6-8
Weighted Dips: 3x6
Standing DB Military: 3x8
CGBP: 3x8
Alternating DB Front Raise: 3x8 per arm

Friday -
Overhead Squat: 3x7 (not too heavy)
Narrow Stance Front Squat ATG: 3x8
Flat BB Bench: 3x6
Pinwheel Curl: 3x6 per arm + a few cheat reps
Incline DB Bench: 3x8
-superset with-
Cable Crossover 3x15


I also do some ab and forearm work after everyworkout if I have time. I had to stop because of a back injury but I usually do boxing too, my back is pretty much better and Ill start my boxing circuits wednesday.
 
What kind of carbs are those "fast acting" carbs you have upon waking?

Fruit juice and sports drinks are loaded with sugar. You could drop those and in time I bet you would notice a change in your body composition. This alone would cut a lot of empty calories from your diet. I doubt you would need to cut anything else.
 
Bro like I said, those fruit juices were before xmas, I barely drink them now. The fast acting carbs on waking were sports drinks and I still drink those upon waking and postworkout, but no other time. I think Im around 18% BF, I dont wana be ripped, diced or any of that shit I just dont want the extra bit or fat around my abs and pecs, but I dont want hugely defined muscles and shit, seeing a little abs though would be good cuz you can already see them through the fat when I put my arms above my head :evil:

I wouldn't reccomend any 14 year old to stack green tea and caffiene. Or even suggest either one at all.

You don't need anythig else right now. I don't suppose creatine and arginine would hurt you in any way, but it's not really worth spending money on it at your age.

You squat, so you'll get results.

wow, 14 yrs old and you already understand diet and exercise.. but still look for the "magic pill" since your ligaments and tendons are still growing and strengthening, i'd suggest chicken and water..

Sure caffiene and green tea work, but that's not the point. You're 14. I wouldn't load a maturing body full of stimulants daily and make your body resistent as well as dependant to them.

I'm hesitant to suggest maturing bodies to use foreign substances. I don't have scientific proof for my opinion, but my instinct tells me that young maturing bodies need to figure themselves out with foreign objects in them altering natural body chemistry, especially daily with strong stuff like green tea.

If you want to look less bloated, drink more water and eat less sodium filled foods. Excessive and raging hormones at your age can do that though. No big deal.

I said 3 gram doses because of your weight. I am 225+ and use 5 grams 3x. 3 grams for your weight is sufficient. If you want to do 5, i wouldn't protest. Not that big of a deal.

green tea extract is acceptable but it's overrated, caffeine won't do jack for fat loss, acetyl-l-carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid in combination are your best bet for a supplement that will lean you out over time, plus they don't have side effects to speak of.

I only take caffeine for strength during workout and it apparently makes your body burn more fat for energy... but strength is the main reason. carnitine... how much could I expect to pay for that? I looked in the local shop and it was very expensive...

Its £5.49 /100g on myprotein, or £6.99 for 90 caps.
 
Stay away from creatine caps, go powder. Your from the UK, give cyclone by maximuscle a try....post workout only, its got HMB, Creatine, All Aminos, Whey etc. Its Damn good shit! Dont know why they dont take thier stuff to USA, they seem to rule the roost over here in terms of sales. Cyclone is one of the best products iv treid. Dont worry too much about the diet, your still young and a bit of cardio or sports activities at/after school will sort you out there. I ate like a freak when i was playign rugby and didnt really add any fat because of the crazy energy demands or plazying and training!

I used to use maximuscle but thats just because someone got it me for xmas, now I just use raw unflavoured whey from myprotein its hell of alot cheaper.

So BCAA are my best bet then?

Yeah! I'm 57 and I admire this Kid ,he has a logic approach to things, and his dedication shows.

Just Wait until you turn 16-17 thats when your body hormones really start kicking in then you're gonna start growing like a weed!

Thats The only way, look at it like this, you are already building a sound foundation, so when your bodys natural hormones kicks in,you can really start throwing around those plates,I Trained a 16 yr old once,his stats were 6 ft and around 150 pounds skinny as a bean pole, well after a yr of solid training and dieting his bench went from 120-to 250,another year later he weighed 240 and was max benching 425. All this was natural.

I feel you have the same potentual,just be patience and it will come.

14 and on a budget? How about ....
2 percent milk or milk powder mixed with water.
I have even found powdered store brade egg whites.
Knox gelitin powder.

If you have a few bucks ... whey protein powder and creatine.
Lots of specials out there on the net.
 
Caffeine at 14 with tea extract? OMG I bet the parent are busy bee's............ LOL just joking... Good motivation. Att 14 though you don't need the caffeine.

Keep up the great work, I wish I had this type of understanding of bodybuilding at your age. When your body naturally gives you that "kick in the ass" you're gonna be a monster. Being patient is very hard at times as we all want that "extra edge" but if you keep doing the right things it'll happen.
