ijust got it yesterday , im goin to get my CC permit , and then i will carry. Prob goin to pick up another gun just for carrying, XD-40 compact.

fucking awesome. Hope you never need to, but if you do you fucking empty a clip into someone. I didnt feel safe where I was yesterday, but I havent gotten my permit yet.

what do you have? Maine is cool cuz when i get it here i can carry it loaded and in plain site in my car, plus when i go home indiana will honor my CCW permit from maine .

I dont have anything. I dont know much about guns either. Arkansas, MO, Kansas, and Colorado all have reciprocity for eachother's CCW permits so I'm covered. I know MO has a friendly travel clause for theirs too.

I bought them both on sale, got each one for a little under $600. I'm looking at the new Sig P220 military but it's $1,200 so I may wait a little bit.

yea i was lookin at the P220 yesterday , nice fukin gun , feels great in your hand. I def cant afford to spend 1200 on a gun though lol. my next baby will be the XD-40 compact.

P220 is the way to go, I've seen all kinds of crazy shit done to those things including firing 10,000 rounds in one afternoon and still only being 1" off at 50'.

The XD's are nice I've actually looked into them a bit.

i was playin with that compact yesterday and it will def be my carry piece. small enough to be concealed and .40 is big enough to leave a mark :qt:

I have been super impressed with the .40 cals, better ballistics than .45 and much more stopping power than 9mm.

no , not all places are bad enough where you have to have a gun , but there def is parts and in this day and age you never know and id rather be safe than sorry.



Scotsman , yea the 40 is supposed to be the shit when it comes to knock out power. Hopefully ill never have to put it to use but if i do i can be very confident in its stopping power , esp with some of the federal EFMJ :evil:

I got a PSE 55/60 Coyote with multiple silencers and a Toxonics fiber-optic sight, probably getting a good high-200's FPS OBO with a prestigious 7" Doinker stabalizer/dampener attached to a Cobra double joint/quick detach.

Hotzie, serious question. Where do I go to get started trying to buy a firearm and get a CCW permit? I live in Arkansas but still have a Missouri drivers license from being down here for school. I'm going to a local gun shop/hunting shop to get some more info. I really didnt feel safe where I was last weekend.

An aside:

Looking at the FBI crime statistics from 2004, memphis actually has a lower crime rate in almost all the categories listed than my hometown of KC MO.

I carry for self defense, mostly while I am out hiking deep in the wilderness. All it will take is one crossing with a black bear to make you realize you need a gun out there.

I'm actually buying a new gun this week to carry for self defense, a S&W 360PD. It's a short range only 5-shot .357 revolver, but the freakin thing weighs 11 ounces, I won't even know it's there. Can't wait to practice with it.
 
I used to have a Walther PPK, but I got rid of it when I moved in with someone else. I don't want someone else to get their hands on it and have an accident.

I think you can only buy firearms in the state in which you are a resident of , but im not sure. All i had to do was get a back ground check (they call it in ) and then show my drivers lisence and fill out some paper work. only took me like 15 minutes and i was done. as for the permit it varies from state to state(packing.org has some good info)
 
hotzie, I just went to a local gun shop. I think what I want to go with is the glock 23 or whatever. It's a .40 caliber, high capacity clip. 13 + 1, very light and supposedly has a lot of knockdown power. $520 on the gun... good or bad?

i assume thats brand new? i would check a few other places, seems a little high. If i were you id even look into a used gun, just make sure its in good shape before you buy it.

thats alot of money , but if its what you want . have you even looked at any other brands? alot of guns look good ,but then as soon as you pick them up and see how they feel in your hands , you totally change your mind on them

yeah, I dont remember the names of all the other pistols I picked up. I tried a couple smaller revolvers, a S&W pistol and a lot of other guns in the $300 range. What turned me on to the glock was the trigger safety. Seems that would be the easiest to pull if you needed it. I talked to the guy for an hour and a half or longer. I put on the belly strap, a shoulder holster, and some holster I dont remember the name of that is similar to the style the police use. The glock felt the best of all of them. I'm going back sunday afternoon to shoot with the owner of the store to get a better feel for it though.

cool , you liking it and feeling comfortable wiht it is all that matters.
 
Before you purchase, see if you can go to the shooting range and actually shoot the gun. I have shot a few different ones... 9mm Taurus, 45 Ruger and a .40 Glock. Of all that I have handled I found the Ruger to be the one that handled the best. The down pt about that Glock (I am most postive that it is the one I shot that belonged to my X ) was that there is no safety switch, it has a dual action trigger. Nice gun NO DOUBT, but just not what I would want.

I have a Ruger 45 for sale ;)

We are going to have to go to the range soon Scots.

You can try my XD-45 and see how you like it. Love to shoot the sig sometime. I have a Kimber .45 and an S&W .40 which I don't really like but hell.

I still prefer the 1911.
