had a encounter with death this weekend

and please don't say "sorry about your loss" or anything similiar
it's not really my loss and i'm not looking for sympathy, just to share a tale
a dude i work out with died yesterday while shoveling off the gym sidewalk
he worked there part time, he was a full time probation officer
in his middle 40's though he looked about 30
has 4 kids, two younger and two in college
real clean cut, church going type of guy...dude was fucking jacked, 5 10 around 250.
powerlifter type of build, set the michigan natty raw record for bp'ing at 500 lbs just recently
i know peeps die everday but this is shocking...dude was sober and very health minded.
fucked up, the last few times i went to the gym i kinda ducked him...he was always real inquisitive about what i was up to, genuinely interested in me and my doings.
i didn't feel like talking the last few times i saw him...now i'm regretting that big time.
fuck

Sorry about that man... I nearly died while preparing to race you. I ran a 7:15 mile on the treadmill and although it wasn't all out, it was enough to feel like I was about to die when I finished.

heart attack??
yeah that's what they say
i always wondered if he sauced...it doesn't seem probable, he was a PO and frowned big time on drug use of any kind.
but i dunno
they are gonna do a autopsy and see exactly what the cause was

Bino, what did he die of......

Had to have been heart related. It's not steroids that increase chances of heart attacks so much as it is being very big and carrying around all that weight, plus probably eating a lot and having high cholesterol. Since this guy was natural.

you think treadmill time carries over to the track?
i'm skeptical of this...i push myself harder on the treadmill than i do on the track

Heart Attack is still a probable cause - all that weight puts a tremendous strain on the CV system.

Most Heart Issues with roids are due to the temp increased BP or the lipids profile - it's simply attributed to the weight you carry and your CV system has to support - lean or not - that's alot of weight.

Thats the bad thing about family genetics.. you never know until you do an autopsy if anything like heart etc: runs in your family..

I think you'll be able to run faster on the treadmill because of no wind resistance, but I'm not sure. On a clear day without much wind, I think I can run faster in the open.

what helps me on the treadmill is the pacing.
harder to slow down than on a track
i wonder what pro runners would have to say about treadmill training

most likely scenario imho. . .a guy that i do some work with from time-to-time had a heart attack this past summer. . .he's early 50's, in impeccable condition (on the outside), eats right, works out regularly, runs in 10k's and what-not, extremely lean. . .at 5'9", he couldn't have been more than 160. . .but his cholesterol is (genetically) pretty high. . .he was playing golf and didn't feel quite "right". . .drove himself to the emergency room and found out he was having a heart attack. . .he was lucky, he lived. . .but at his age the road to recovery is pretty difficult and it's especially difficult for him because he's so active. . .

what makes this even more sad is that he was laying in the parking lot for at least an hour before somebody arrived to lift
the gym opened at 9am, he got there at 8am
first person to arrive was at 930
sad

Very sad!! This is why I will be getting an EKG at least every 2 yrs. My grandmother died of a heart attack when she was only 55 so it's scary! I feel especailly bad for your friend's family :(

Horrible that he laid there without some help! Sad stuff!

My fate will be this: I do not drink, smoke, do drugs or eat un-healthy- I'll get run over by a truck or something! I often wonder if it's all really worth it to be honest.

I think I'll find a vice in life and say, " Fuck it.I'm living like there is no tomorrow".
