gym anxiety?

New member
im skinny, would wear long sleeve tops to gym, roughly 6ft 150 lbs.

Joined the gym and was planning to go today, walked in and saw a load of big guys in tank tops working out, i couldnt get the guts to go in and do a workout because of my gym anxiety.

Anybody got any funny stories of when they were young and skinny and how they overcame this pussy emotion.

I know im going to have to reattach my nuts so please try and keep this thread funny and helpful!

thx

You just gotta focus on yourself....there will always be somebody bigger out there (unless you are pitbullstl). Just worry about yourself and concentrate on your lifting.

...and try not to stare too hard at the backside of guys doing squats like Killahbee does. That's just gay.

Exactly what pharmy poo said.

Don't be intimidated by anyone. Remember, everyone was the smallest guy in the gym at one point ...

Realize that almost 100% of the people in there started where you are.... I for one have been lifting for a while, and respect the guys that come in for the first time and start. I know where I came from, so should everyone else in the gym.

The guys that are assholes in the gym were either...

a.) beat up as a child
b.) have a tiny cock
c.) were ass-raped by their father

Tell yourself those things, ask some of the more personable bro's in the gym to give you a hand (most will) make friends and focus. It will be second nature very soon.

i still am the skinny guy in the gym
baggy sweats and sweatshirts

its ok
the big guys (not the fat guys who think they are jacked) are usually the coolest guys in the gym

Heh... there will *always* be someone bigger and stronger than you are.

Oh, and *never* hesitate to roll into the weight room and get it done. You'd be surprised -- the vast majority of "big guys" have major respect for smaller and/or heavier (you are not heavy, obviously) people who show up in the gym and work hard.

I know this doesn't apply to you, but when I see a really obese guy in the gym, I think to myself "Who's really overcoming the barrier here? I can come in and put up decent numbers and see almost immediate results. This guy is betting on the come and busting his ass."

just walk up to the biggest dude and hit him, then start banging your head with your fists.

You will be the man after you get outta the hospital and go back!!

dont worry bout them. just think of it this way. you can look just as good in some hard years of training. will power is the key

Most of the "bigger" guys in my gym wear long sleeve and pants...........there's your first mistake..get out of the meathead gym...............just obey the rules (dont curl in the squat rack, stay away from the smith, dont ask to work in on the bench when some dude is on there with 4 plates loaded, etc....)and you'll be fine.

Listen to your friend JKurz1, he's a cool dude. He's trying to help you out.

I don't like being around people, but I got used to it...
You will to.

If you're feeling intimidated, just wear some Adidas tearaway pants, wifebeater, and a backwards baseball cap for your next workout.

that's what the ICYHOTSTUNTAZ wear, and nobody fucks with them. nobody.

just go workout. but don't ask to workin if you got to take major plates off the bar.
*echo, echo, echo, echo"...sometimes it amazes me how people can read a thread and their input is exactly what has aready been said.......

Sorry I was referring to lifting heavy weights on DL or squats and some knuckle head needing to do a warmup set. I wouldn't mind lifting a few caddies off the bar to help a small guy, but then again, i take 5 minute rest intervals. Plenty of time for him to restack my bar . Sorry I didn't read your post jkurz1.

You're not going to attract attention to yourself unless you're using poor form, grunting/screaming during your reps, or flexing in the mirror and that includes pulling up your shirt for ab shots.

I'm far from the biggest guy in my gym, but I always have twice the respect for the skinny guy who obviously pays attention to form and works more than chest and arms than the big guy who uses shit form and has eight fanny packs on.

If I can be comfortable in the gym wearing nothing but boxer-briefs, an oxygen tank, arm floaties and a welder's mask, you should have no problem with just being a skinny dude in gym clothes.

The vast majority of big guys in the gym are cool as shit. The ones who aren't are generally so vain that they don't even notice there are other people in the gym working out. For them it's like working out with a bunch of vampires, the only reflection in the gym mirror is themselves.
