Grip

I cannot do bent over dumb bell rows because of my grip. I cant seem to grip 85+ lbs in 1 hand. It slips out. What are some ways I can get enough grip to hold those? My friends dont have a problem.

My best suggestion is to do grip holds. Grab heavy weight(for you the 80's or so) and just stand and hold them. Try doing 20-30 second holds. Then progress up in weight if you can. Stay near the rack so you can put them back in a hurry or set them on a bench so you aren't dropping them. For now you can try using straps until your grip catches up but use them only when your grip is failing.

There isn't a big cosmic mystery on grip as many people think. Grip strength works the same as everything else. If you want to bench heavy you use heavy weight, if you want to squat heavy you use heavy weight, so if you want to hold heavy weight then you hold heavy weight.

Thanks for that I'll try it out next time I'm at the gym. I've never had problems holding weight before ugh. I just started doing dead lights too. Is 205 decent for beginning? I can do that kinda easy.

Don't worry about the weight on deads for now. Concentrate on learning the form, deadlifts are probably the hardest lift to learn to do correctly. This could also be why your grip is failing on other exercises since you have added a tremendous workload to your grip.

My advice:

Don't wear gloves or lifting straps.
Use CoC or HG grippers - No1 or HG200 is probably good for you, every day.
Do chinups, deadlifts, rows and olympic moves and nothing else that will require a grip.

farmers walk helped me a lot and Iv just started doing timed grip holds at the end of my DL sets so instead of completing the rep I just stand there holding it for 10-15 secs, then put it down...
