Greatest Heavyweight Boxer Ever...

Tyson never beat a great fighter, he was humilated twice by holyfield and killed by lewis. Ali beat great fighters (liston, frazier, foreman, quarry). But, given the argument about today's guys being bigger and stronger, I would probably say that Lennox would beat Ali 9 out of 10 times if they fought. One other thing, the most underated champ ever= Larry Holmes.

that wasnt mike tyson... mike tyson's career ended when he went on trial for rape... he should be suing her!!!!

Ali was the highest overall skilled and fastest.Marciano for his size was probably the toughest/hardest puncher.
Ali was highly skilled, and one of the best in his prime. However, aside from the fact that he was an absolute jerk, I still rate Frazier as a better fighter. While Ali turned into a lazy show-dancer, Frazier remains one of the hardest working men ever to set foot in the ring. It's interesting to note that after their fight when Ali won by knock out, Frazier went out for a night on the town to blow off steam while Ali was immediately rushed to the hospital. Now you tell me who really won? :D

A distinction must be made as to whether we're talking about the greatest (most skilled) boxer or the greatest fighter. In my opinion, Rocky Marciano, especially regarding his size, is withought a doubt the greatest fighter ever. He was a true modern gladiator.

I think Jack Johnson was a greater boxer than even Ali could have thought himself to be.

You all have to remember that as time goes by the athletes of almost every sport get bigger, stronger, faster. No disrespect to Ali but there are a number of boxers today that would destroy him in a fight. Speaking as all these boxers were in there prime Tyson,Lewis,Holyfield,Vlad. Klitchscho, David Tua could win just because of his incredible punching power. As far as alot of you saying Marciano is the best, he was the best for his time and one of the greatest ever but no match for the fighters of today. He would be in Roy Jones Jr's weight class and that would spell the end to his undefeated record.

LMAO! I can't believe what I just read. I doubt anyone is going to take your knowledge of Boxing seriously, when you say that David Tua could beat Ali goofus. What a JOKE!!!

What are you talking about. He's 49-4 with 2 no contests. Look at the 4 losses: 2 fights he wasnt prepared for (B. Douglas, Lewis), a 12-round thriller (Tyson/Holyfield 1), and a DQ (T/H 2). The no contest against Golota should have been a Tyson win. Golota just gave up and left the ring with his trainers chasing him. That would give Tyson 50 wins. 50 wins is more than most of history's heavyweights. Give him back his prison time & the 1 year he was banned after the Holyfield fight and he'd have 65+ wins. Mike is 37-0 in non-title fights.

Muhammad Ali vs. Mike Tyson, both at their very prime = Ali getting decimated by Tyson, probably within 6 rounds

If/When Tyson/Lewis 2 happens, if Tyson is in proper shape, focused, and not heavily drugged again, he will win.

You basically just repeated what I said. The 4 losses were to the only 1/2-decent fighters he fought. The first fight between Tyson/Holyfield, Tyson got an asswhipping, so I'm not sure what you watched. Ali, in his prime, beat(minus Frasier the first time) all the quality oponents that stood in his way. And all the horseshit excuses as to why Tyson got beat by Lewis are just that brother. He got beat, because he was the lesser fighter. Plain, pure & fucking simple!!! No excuses.

I don't know how anyone could consider Tyson one of the all time greats. He had the potential to be maybe the greastest ever but that's all it was, untapped potential. Honestly what quality opponent has he beaten? Other than Holyfield and Lewis what other high quality opponents did he face nevermind beat? Razor Rudduck is the only that comes to mind. Everyone else was scared and didn't even put up a fight except Buster Douglas and we know what happened there.

Best ever? Ali. He talked the talk, walked the walked and beat real champions consistantly.

This is the gospel. It's embarrassing to see people put Mike Tyson in the same category as Ali. Tyson ducked any real competition his whole career. People got a very exagerated view of his power and ability because he got matched against tomato cans. I mean for God's sake the guy won his title beating Trevor Berbick. Who the hell has ever heard of Trevor Berbick? Tyson had the good fortune to be a good fighter during an era when there were no great contenders. He showed his true colors by ducking a fight with Holyfield his entire career. It used to be a joke in boxing that the only way Tyson was ever going to beat Holyfield was by refusing him a fight till Holyfield was too old to compete. That is literally what Tyson's camp tried to do. It was an actual legal battle that finally forced Tyson to fight Holyfield. The game wasw up. Tyson had to fight him. He couldn't hide anymore.

I've heard of Trevor Burbick, but that doesn't mean he sucked any less. I agree bro.

Xerxes,
My heavyweight list goes like this and is in no particular order;

Muhammed Ali = An undeiable jab and a hard head. Pioneer.
Larry Holmes = A jab similar but not quite.
Joe Louis = A great boxer.
Sugar Ray Robinson = A combo of speed & power when it wasn't
popular.
Rocky Marciano = A heavyweight way under 200lbs. Rock chin.
Lenox Lewis = Complete.
Jack Dempsey = Bare knuckled haymaker landing psycho.
George Foreman = Strongest heavyweight ever? Hardest puncher? Maybe?

Tyson was all potential. Wladimir Klitchko, not Vitali, is the future. The heavyweight division now is full of big stong guys that hit hard. Tua being the hardest hitting of all the boxers. In a lot of ways, boxing and body building are quite similar. It was raw in the 70's.

Polish-Sugar Ray Robinson was welter/middleweight...Just thought I'd point that out.But lb for lb he may be the greatest fighter to ever step in the ring. His ability/toughness/speed/power was mind-boggling.A truly complete fighter.
