i don't know alot about guns. Does the name brand really matter? I mean, is a glock or beretta really better made (less likely to fall apart) than a local brand. I'm asking seriously, i don't know. I bought a local brand gun a year ago, it still works fine.
There is a definite difference in quality as far as brands brother, but when you are talking the difference between Companies like Glock, Baretta or Smith & Wesson, it really boils down to personal prefference & company loyalty in my opinion. None of those guns are cheap by any means. One step lower on the price/quality ladder would be brands such as Rossi, or Ruger. I used to have a stainless steel Ruger P89 9mm a few years back. That was before they made that "Brady Bill" Law, that limited the amount of shells you could use in any clip. My "9" held like 15 + 1 in the chamber, whereas now I think the limit is like 7(?). If you want to continue down the ladder of price/quality, you will eventually come to the bottom. I would put brands like Intratech at the bottom of the barrel. Just my opinion, but I bought a "Tech 22" back in 1990, and the fucker was junk. The Clip was made of plastic & it jammed constantly. I did like the fact that it held like 50 rounds in a banana clip though, but it was rare that you could roll them all out without having to adjust the clip because of a jam. They also make the infamous "Tech 9" as well. I think they are illegal now, because they are so easily converted to fully-automatic by adding a spring mechanism I hear. I would go with the Pistol for home defense personally brother, especially if you have kids. That way you can hide it away, and keep your child from accidentally stumbling accross it, God forbid. It's alot harder to hide a shotgun.
Pistol for home defense for sure. I have a baretta 390 Sportclay shotgun. If it's for outdoor fun go for it. Only kind of shotgun I would use for home use for hime defense would be a scattergun with a pistol grip such as a mossberg.
pistol for home defense IF you are confident that in a moment of great stress you will be level-headed and steady- handed enough to get a good bead on your target (likely moving) and get a good shot(s). If you haven't had any real tactical firearm training (not target shooting), and don't want to take the time to do so, then I'd still say shotgun for home defense.
...definitely agree about the pistol grip set-up. Mossberg, or you can pick up a nice Winchester 1300 defender pretty cheap also.

Yeah, that's what I have too. A391 3.5 Xtrema shotgun. I don't use it often during hunting season but it's durable and light-weight unlike Remington. I don't know about pistols but nice choice for a shotgun.
I believe the ban is on the import or manufacture of any mags over 10 rounds in capacity. That doesn't mean that you can't still buy guns and high-cap mags made before the ban though.
