i had the bar set about 12 inches off the ground in the power rack. my max dead from the floor reached 515, up from 510. so i went back to the rack to try and increase that. got 545, 585, and 605 for singles. went for 615 and got destroyed. the bar barely moved.

my question. next week. should i move directly from 495 to 615 to avoid the extra energy exertion from the lighter weight which i completed pretty easyily? 605 wasnt easy but the bar moved steady.

any opinions on other options that might be available. i may be looking at this in a singular fashion and missing obvious things to try. thanks.

my progression looked like this:
225 for 3
315 for 2
405 for 2
495 for 2
545 for 1 585 for 1 605 for 1
615 for nothing

man I miss doing DL's.. my back always gets F'ed up after I start doing heavy ones.
Good job man!!!

i would remove what i made red then you should get your rep. try 625 you sissy jk lol

What I would do personally. If I am trying to find my new max. Do your low 400 reps then try your max. I would agree go 625 then pull back to 550 range for 2 to 4 and back to 500 for 3 to 5 and back to 450 for 4 to 6.
That'll burn you out. At least it does for regular deads.

Your back and legs should be well warmed up with a 400 dead then a max load should not cause an injury.

some good suggestions here. i just wrote them down in my training log i bring to the gym with me. thank you all for the suggestions. i will implement them next week. im leaning towards joe d and needto's suggestions as of right now.

rest periods were 3 minutes. i dont like going over that. when i tried 4 minutes i felt like i was cooling down too much.

I would take a week off from deads before you try and max again. WHen i was doing heavy rack pulls back in the winter i got up to like 765 or there abouts and the next week that weight was alooooot harder due to CNS strain.
