Just up another level in my current title, Programmer Analyst, but I manage 8 people now and got an 8% bump and 4,100 bonus (1,000 stock options too but they aren't worth anything yet).

I told some guy the exact same thing last night. His girl is pressuring him not to go back to school. But, he wants to get his masters, because he can't find a good job.


She is being extra nice it keep him around for her own benefit.

I make more than Supervisors of IT, about the same as a Manager of IT, I still do a lot of analysis and design, some development, so I prefer to keep the technical title.

Keep in mind, internal rep and awards mean nothing on the outside, your next job will simply call your current HR and ask for your title and salary. I agree with staying technical (bread and butter) but don't underestimate perception.

this is very true. They have gotten a great value out of me over the years, I did some of my best work as an Intern!

I believe I've been fairly compensated, could I get more? yes, absolutely, I could get more tomorrow if I went looking, but there are some other good reasons to stay here.

I have held 2 previous associate dir titles, 1 dir title and still keep my tech skills. If I change jobs, they simply go right to the management titles. Upper level management doesn't understand the challenges of programmers, thus it relies on often people with management titles that can't program a do-loop.

its actually been the opposite for me, as it is for a LOT of people. hence the power the republicans have over a lot of this country.

Its sort of like the lottery. WHo plays that? Not people who are educated, smart, and have a decent amount of money (in general) its the poor.

Republicans convince people that having a SMALL, near impossible shot at unlimited wealth is better than socially responsible programs that ensure we all benefit from this great country.

We can't have slaves anymore, so we enslave the lower class. We import labor (or outsouce it) from other countries and let them do the work no one else wants to do, and of course we don't pay them anywhere near fairly for it.

Its not about one person, or a handful of people, or an entire organization giving to charity. Its about structuring this country in a way that we all benefit, have a good chance of success, and a high change of happiness.

Whether repubs or democrats are in power - you're life won't change one iota.

The useless iraq war was APPROVED by BOTH democrats AND republicans in 2003.

Therefore, the inference that they're both "different" is clearly disproved.

When Clinton was in power, the 'good guys' were the republicans. When Bush is in power, it's the dems who are the 'good guys'. Silly to think one side grew up on the different side of the tracks somehow.
