Gold's Gym Membership

New member
I just changed jobs here in Austin and it looks like the closest gym is Gold's - which sucks because I still have a year left on my pre-paid membership at 24hr + renewals at $100 a year.

Anyway - does anyone know the going rate on memberships at Gold's? I hate to go in and be at the mercy of the sales rep. I don't mind pre-paying for a year or 2 either. Also - does anyone know if memberships are transferable? I've seen a few for sale on ebay/craigslist - but for some reason they are all in Utah...

Thanks for any help.

I was at Golds over 4 years ago and it was $19 a month but there was an upfront fee (I cannot remember how much - it wasn't that much because I am a cheap fucker).

I do remember they were pricks when I had to cancel. I was moving and they required all kinds of shit - like a lease on my new place which I was not scheduled to get for quite a while. Not only did they harassme on the proof that I was moving I could not cancel at the local gym, everything had to go through to HQ which was in another state.

overall it was a miserable experience BUT the best looking girls I have ever seen in a gym all went to that Gold's...I'm a man-whore and even the hotties wouldn't make me go back to Gold's.

Just my 2 cc's. I know others here have had wonderful experiences so take mine with a grain of salt.

I pay 20 a month, signed a year deal. I think it was first and last up front to start then 10 payments to finish otu the contract. I have to agree in lots of eye candy at Golds but not so much to distract from workout.

I'm at Golds in College Station. Costs $32 a month, no application or upfront fee's other than first and last months. No contract, just need 60 days notice to cancel so I can use my last month thats already paid for. Decent gym, and I can use any other golds, I use the one in Austin at 183 and Lake Creek when I'm up there.

I was a member of one in FL, and if you have any choice do NOT use direct withdrawal from your debt or checking, if you can pay by the month, or put down cash. I had a bitch of a time to cancel my membership, and to make the books look good, they reinstated all the canceled member ships and charged everyone to make it look like there numbers were up, I had to go through the whole cancellation process again. and its been like a year and a half, and they still call me to get me to sign up. I dont even live in the same state anymore.....just be careful of what information you give them, and don’t give out anything you don’t need to, and pay cash if possible.

Which golds are you going to be training at bro?

Thanks all...I'm looking at the Golds on 6th & Congress...its 3 blocks from my work - can't beat that. But I've heard lots of horror stories about cancelling w/ them - I'll do my best to pay up front.
Went in today and they offered me a $180 initiation w/ $25/month. Which still seems high to me. Personally I'd rather just pay 3 years up front and get the dues down to less than $20 a month - maybe they'll come up w/ a better deal at the end of the month.

Negotiating option:
... tell them you're not in a rush and to call you when they want to make a sale. That get's the good rates out of them, if you don't want to play hardball.
