Gloveshyness

Try doing one sided drills where you are specifically on defense, and where you are specifically on offense. If you are on defense you can not throw a punch, just work on your slips and blocks(whatever style you may be), and on offense throw punches and combinations with out having to worry about defending yourself yet.

no I throw punches fine
I have trouble keeping my eyes on the opponent I try to turn my head away
or lately I havn't turned away I just look down

looking down is a natural response to having punches thown at your face, you can get yourself used to this by holding the focas pads closer to your face when doing drills with a partner. this way you can practice keeping your head up with the punches comeing towards to your face with out geting hit.

how close should the focus pads be
I generally do a lot of inside punching on the focus pads already so they are like right there
I think it's fear and being a pansy
I'm terrified this wont go away

You are showing low self-efficacy in your ability to take hits, or effectively prevent them connecting. This is a personal belief and not neccesarily fact. we all believe in our strengths and weaknesses, yet they may or may not be what we see them as. Maybe you do not trust your sparring partners.

The best thing to do is know that you have the training, the ability and the means to effectively stop an attacker.

perhaps too much time on tit for tat fight techniques and not enough of putting a stop to the advancing opponent. change your tactics a bit, maybe pussy footing around isnt your thing and your current fear is from fear over an extended time of your ability.

I too do not like my odds over time, my endurance sux, and I too dislike the gloves, so I looked for methods to quicken the end of the fight in my favour.

You are psyching yourself out. If you know the stuff, have demonstrated talent, then the barrier is internal belief. If practice isnt fixing it, maybe its time to find another style that better suits your mindset.

I am no expert, but play around with whats on offer.

Umm , Im mean , but I got my little sister over this by having my Brother hold her in a Full nelson while I slapped her in the face 100 times .

after about 75 she stopped being gunshy , and the next lesson she was like a different Fighter .

She didnt really TALK to me for a couple of months , but now she can fight men .

start with the pads a confortable distance away from your face when then move em a little bit closer when your cconmfortable with that distance move em closer again this will get you used to punches being thrown towards your face trust me!

The best way to get accustomed to being hit is to be hit, simply put.

No, getting the living tar beaten out of you will.

i agree with you but getting in the ring and getting hit when your allready scared of getting hit is gonna do nothing but make you more scared.

Yes, it could do that...which is why light sparring or heavily padded medium/full contact sparring is better than getting owned at the hands of a pro. Honestly, it could go either way...but in my experience, knowing I can take a punch has led me to not fearing it.

I might try that
actually a similar drill with jabs was recomended...

to clear something up, I'm not AFRAID of getting hit
it's always my idea to spar
but I can't stop ACTING like I'm afraid of getting hit
in that sparring match I had recently, I was constantly moving forward and was definatly the aggressor
it's just keeping my eyes on the other guy that is giving me trouble

Pardon the misunderstanding. I should have been more clear...however, I am surprised that getting hit hasn't led you to not flinching.

Make sure your chin is tucked in and turn the flinch into a slip, bob, or weave if you can't rid yourself of it.

You just have to come to a Point where you not only acce[pt it MENTALLY , but that Acceptance is INGRAINED . Youre GOING to get hit , and you have to do something useful to stop it happening too many times .

In short , you have to "Short Circuit" your "Fight Or Flight" trigger and trip it to "Fight" .

I've got it on Fight, I just don't have it on watch the other guy
it's like my body is perfectly fine with fighting, my face just dosn't wanna see the results or something

it' snot that I've sparred a huge amount, I had been overcimnig the problem slowly a year ago then I didn't get to spar for like six months and now it's back
I've sparred rarely since then so it's not exactly odd that it hasn't gone away yet
one thing I dunno, I keep my hands on my chin like Tyson had, which wouldn't be bad if I could keep my eyes onthe other guy, but it might be a phsycological thing doyou think a more traditional stance would work better for me or is that too minor to even impact me

Like I said , youre at the stage where your MIND accepts it , but your REFLEXES dont have it Ingrained yet . And unless youre WAY shorter than most of your Opposition I wouldnt go with that Chin thing . "Answer The Phone" is always the Best Idea when you have Gloves on , cover that Temple up , ESPECIALLY if you tend to Eye-Blink . You wont see that Concussion COMING !

well I'm 5'10 and a heavyweight
so I'd mostly fight people bigger then me
I plan on droping as much of this bodyfat as I can tho so I dunno what weight I'd wind up but wherever I am I'll probubly always have a 'thick' build

kane: when you train the heavy bag/pads, etc. do you imagine a person there and look at the correct area when you throw your techniques? if you dont have your eyes focused on the right area when you practice it would probably happen in sparring too.

I'm pretty sure I look about eye level on the bag but I'll work on that to thanks
also having friends hit me while I turtle up
and bounching a basketball off of my forehead
