I saw a news bite on the firemen riot in NYC where the cops had to arrest several of them because Giuliani won't let the firemen dig their colleagues out of the rubble by hand...the city seems to want to finish the clean up with cranes....thereby desecrating the bodies of their beloved brothers.

Is this another financial thing? Where the feelings of the men/women involved are secondary to the financial interests of the city?

its a tough call. he has to juggle the coporate big-wiggs who just care about money, the firemen some of who died trying to save others, and the nation which has to look on the WTC as a sort of battle scar...maybe he wants to speed up the process of returining to some sort of 'normality'

yes. but their bodies are mangled to shit. it fucking sucks ass but thats true. bodyparts and shit are all over. thousands of tons of fucking building have fallen on them. does it matter now if they are picked up by hand of by machines? we just need to do it fast.

Speaking from experience of retrieving dead bodies from wreaked building's, I was involved in digging out six dead children from a house in Lebanon, it was blown up by an Isreali 155mm HE arty rd.

After this lenght of time the cranes are the ONLY way to dig now.
Although I can understand the firemens feelings for their dead comrades. With hind sight these same guys will realise Guilani is right.

God bless those guys, their going through a living hell.
NYFD are advertising vacancies here in Ireland for experienced firefighters and paramedics, I bother is a serving paramedic. He would love to transfer his service to NY but feels he'd be filling another mans boot's and has decided not to go.

I can understand the sentiment behind the Firemen's actions. They want to do something.... anything.....

At this point, I think that the cleanup needs to be moved in a direction to get it done.

Also, the bodies of fallen comrades have surely begun some serious decomposing. Even if the Firemen were permitted to continue digging.... they would be doing nothing more than collecting bones.

What happen was that Guiliani got all the gold, bonds, money from an overseas security company out from WTC, why do you think he was in such a hurry to dig the middle of the rubble. Well now that they got what they were looking for the rest is not really "important" . Safety issue, that is bullshit, there was no safety issue 3 days ago right, why now.
